Spoilers ST Lower Decks - Starships & Technology Season 5 Discussion

5x03

- The Cosmic Duchess recalls the design of Starbase 1 from SNW. Strangely though, the domes we see are arranged pointing "up" and "down", where pretty much everything in this era of Federation design is one side up. Maybe it's really, really old? It seems to be run by the same unnamed species as the Titan's sometimes XO, so perhaps it's a facility built by those guys? And everything is written in English?

- I hesitate on calling the USS Manitoba another Parliament-class ship. The ones we've seen before are named after Canadian cities, not provinces.

- Where did they scare up a civilian shuttle from? Replication? Last year Billups had a whole ship for his Mandalorian cosplay, perhaps they have a supply of civvie vessels on hand for this sort of thing. Or really, they could've just used the ship from last year.

- You'd think there would be more safety stuff on a 24th century ski hill, "Expert's Demise" name or not.

- The Intrepid-class USS Endeavour's captain is wearing a TNG-era uniform, including the old combadge. The bridge seems to be hand drawn but accurate to VOY.

- While clearly a gag, the gang has played with icosahedron math rocks before in the Klingon RPG from season 3.

It occurs to me that that the opening credits seem to be showing the blaster-beam sound was diagetic and is actually a noise V’Ger makes rather than its theme in the score.

I love the twist with the Intrepid-class ship. I wonder if their dimension is microscopic compared to prime's by default, or if their transfer to prime led to the miniaturization?

Moreover, we know that Starfleet has the technology to shrink and restore ships and their crews per DS9 “One Little Ship”… Perhaps they can apply something similar to grow the USS Endeavour up to regular fightin’ size for our dimension?

More like, they sent the vessel back through the same shrinking anomaly to get them back to normal.

It sounded like they came from a microscopic dimension. Like the tiny aliens from Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Captain Freeman's log: "A Federation starship from a dimension of a much smaller scale was stranded in ours."

Indeed so. Well, I guess if that anomaly is still around, they could try to adapt the tech they used there? Admiral Wazzisname should get right on it!

The concept for "Mass Producing" the Texas Class in a Modified format seems sound IMO.

The programming for it was bad and shouldn't have been done in secret by a Super Dark-Emo Ensign.

Also, the MIRV Photon Torpedoes are AWESOME, I really wish they would become the new standard Torpedo for the UFP.

Thank you. In which case, can one insert the mini-Intrepid into one's body? Making it pivot its nacelles up and down.
Asking for science.
:alienblush:

The Polar Lights model kit of the Cerritos comes with a physical version of the Cerritos MSD Mike Okuda made for Lower Decks.

There's some close up of it in this unboxing video:

The model site does have a picture of it, but it's not legible

Don’t forget the uniforms in Prodigy. Not just the semi-LDS ones, but also the Protostar’s specialty uniforms. Starfleet in the ‘80s isn’t hurting for alternate outfits. Which is less clean on a Fact Files graphic, but does make uniform continuity errors less… possible.

One assumes Starfleet tries out new uniforms on a limited basis early, at first.

Some may end up issued in more localised postings, too, vs on deep range assignments? Which can take longer to get them (ala DS9 in 2373.4)

5x04: A fascinating look at Klingon civilian life, which must exist if there is to be a warrior caste, after all.

- Bloodwine is made from serpent worms, which is also used to make gagh! The whole irrigation system to bring them to the surface for harvesting, and then manually stomping them down into wine is so weird and yet so sensible.

- Bloodwine is usually aged, as we know from DS9. Here it seems to be delivered fresh and directly to the bar? Or was he just running late?

- We don't really see how Mariner and Boimler got to Qo'nos, they just sorta showed up. As they were on official assignment though, would they have taken one of the Cerritos' shuttles? Or flown coach? With a Starfleet discount?

- Is the food prepared in Migleemo's quarters? We see books and such in the background.

- I hope - nay, pray - that they didn't get that Starfleet manure out of the ship's food replicators.
