Kobayashi Maru Preview & Cover Art

Cool, thanks for sharing. They must have just added that, because it wasn't up when I was on this morning at around 7:30 Az time. I also want to say that the cover artwork is awsome, it definitely continues the recent high quality of the covers.

I'm really excited for this particular peice of fiction. I was really emotionally attached to Enterprise even if I could see the flaws in it. "The Good that Men Do" was a new adventure for the crew, technically, was a new adventure, but it was more the novels way of working with the series finale.

This is it where it really begins, though. I love the concept of Archer being in the original Kobayashi Maru -- although for his sake I hope his career doesn't suffer too much from it. If Trip stays off of the Enterprise during the adventure than we might get to see more action for Hoshi, Mayweather, Phlox and Reid, too. Again, I'm quite excited.

He was still undercover at the end of TGTMD wasn't he? Because if so, I doubt he'll be going back to the NX-01 anytime soon.

It would seem logical to not have Trip on the Enterirpise -- But then again, those crazy writers do like surprises. So I'm trying not to make too many assumptions.

I am looking forward to this very much. TGTMD was an excellent book and I finally felt that "Star Trek: Enterprise" was becoming what it should be and living up to the potential.

Not to nag, but I thought a Trilogy of Romulan War books were already confirmed for 2009. I hope it is at least 3 to do it justice.

I'm sorry, but after the last two books my interest in the Enterprise Relaunch is almost not existent. I might get it sometime in the future, but neither the cover, the article nor the authors' track record with Enterprise novels screams read me at me. *shrug*

To each their own. I enjoyed the last few books and am looking forward to see where M&M take these stories.

I remember fondly taking The Good That Men Do with me on holiday and getting through it in a day. I found it that addictive. So you can bet I'll be pre-ordering this in time for September. Having the Kobayashi Maru rooted in 22nd Century history is something I feel the show would've done. You only have to watch Azati Prime/Damage to see the kind of no-win scenario Mangels & Martin's book has got to live up to. Fingers crossed.

I wouldn't mind seeing these kind of stories brought to DVD, should J.J. Abrams' take on Star Trek's future falter at the Box Office.

This was a real interesting line:
“There’s some backwards things that we’re laying into "Kobayashi Maru" that explain why Archer’s ship looks the way it does… and also why the Enterprise of Kirk’s era looks the way it does. It’s actually laid out there in one of the movies, all without techno babble.

I might have to let somebody spoil me on that point...I barely have time to keep up with my TOS reading right now, let alone try to dip back into ENT. But it does sound very interesting.

I notice the next Star Trek Magazine (#11, 138 UK) features a look at Starfleet's early years, including an in-depth look at ENT. Perhaps Kobayashi Maru will be that issue's Fiction Extract ahead of its release later in the year?

It's a very nice cover, and I'm sure it'll be even neater in person (this kind of shiny chiascuro doesn't always communicate well in online thumbs). Hopefully the story within the covers will be a tad more reasonable this time.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Will the future books give reason as to why the Romulans wanted to be united with the Vulcans again? Will this also be one of their main purposes for going to War? I saw little mention of it in TGTMD.

Must be a tricky balance, being a trek writer - half of your readers will read this:

which revealed that Tucker was still alive some seventy-seven year later, in 2238, and had even contributed “anonymous marginal notations” on the construction blueprints for the Constitution-class Starship Enterprise.

and think "wow cool" and the other half will think "god, not more small-universe wankery".

Much as I would love that to be the case, the vagaries of publishing means that we sent that issue to press three weeks ago long before any material might have been available...
What we do have is Mike Friedman talking about Starfleet Year One, and an excerpt from Bill Leisner's Myriad Universes tale that extrapolates from an Enterprise episode...

I was pleasantly surprised when I first read TGTMD. It was a really good book and very addictive, so I'm looking forward to reading this one as well.

Does this mean we get to meet the Enterprise's new Chief Engineer? Admittedly, though I bought TGTMD when it came out, I've not actually read it yet so correct me if we've already met him/her.
