MLB 2024: Baseball is for Everyone (subject to local blackout restrictions)

Orioles have lost 10 straight playoff games. 2014 was the last time they won, when they swept the Tigers, then got swept by the Yankees.

The Tigers have a real chance against the Guardians, a team that benefitted from being in a division with the White Sox and being steady all year. Royals will have a tougher time with the Yankees.

Blue Jays are holding onto Mark Shapiro, Ross Atkins & John Schneider, which will be the tenth season for Shapiro & Atkins. A level of Cleveland mediocrity that was seen in their tenure there has settled onto the Jays.

Joe Musgrove needs Tommy John, so he's out for San Diego's postseason, and likely all of 2025 as well.

Unlike in the NFL, is an MLB bye a curse? 50% of the bye teams were eliminated in the division series in 2022 which was the first year of this format, and 75% in 2023.

Well, you know what this means.

We just have to expand the league to 32 teams, that way there's no bye anymore. [/rob manfred]

Exactly.

If we went to 16 teams in each league, we could have four divisions of four teams each.

No wild card teams, no byes, none of that crap; just go straight into the division series. Simple, logical, efficient.

If you don't win your division, you don't deserve to make the playoffs. It's as simple as that.

Honestly, I'm all for that. I've never been a big fan of the wild card, but I was mostly fine with it when it was only one card. But now that it's two and with a bye and all of this other shit? Zzzzzzz...

I long for the days of simplicity.

Even if you get to four divisions, TV money will keep the Wild Cards around for more games to televise.

I liked the one game playoff between two wild card teams so that they wouldn’t be able to set their rotation for the LDS, but there’s too much late season interest and too much playoff money to be made with wild card teams and round.
