Sleep deprived stream of consciousness thoughts.
Why did Daniels have Sisko's baseball? Did he literally go back in time to steal it, along with Gordi's VISOR, or is it implied that he worked with both of them and they gave him souvenirs?

In fairness, both of those things were just lying around at some point in the past. He could have found the moment where people stopped caring about them and grabbed them then.

It's so weird. I do like Discovery S3-5, but it also feels like such a wasted opportunity. Literally a blank canvas to do anything you want with the Star Trek "brand" but without the baggage of worrying about continuity, and other than remixing some of the races a bit, it doesn't feel all that different. Even in the context of leveraging an exciting ancient alien legacy story, Star Trek Resurgence did a better job with how it was handled than this season.

I see it. DSC was too conservative a show for its entire run, wasn't it?

Both TNG and LD have basically said these types of "hoarders" are bad people though, so I hope he wasn't just grave robbing or stealing stuff using time travel. But we're not supposed to think too much about it.

I really think the season arcs just constrained them too much. Rebuilding the Federation was the perfect excuse to explore what has changed in 1000 years, instead they just skipped all of that entirely... it's just an odd choice.

Poor Matt Winston. And we thought recasting Maddox in Picard was bad.

I have a theory that they knew they were on to something with the potential for a Pike show when they were finessing season 2 (that especially would explain the last scene of S2) and they steered S3 away from a conventional exploration vibe

This is literally Mass Effect. Always choose destroy. It’s the right option. :)
I don’t get how taking them to the galactic barrier would make them decades away. The barrier sounds the entire galaxy. You are never that far from it.

If you move them to the furthest end of the Galactic Barrier, it's still quite a journey home.

When USS Discovery was at risk of having to travel back the long way, I estimated it would take them ~ 1 year to get home (Not bad compared to what the USS Voyager had to deal with).

Maybe the Dreadnought isn't nearly as fast as USS Discovery-A?

I believed I wouldn't see this episode this early but happy I did.

That was one for the ages. It was great at every level. Included some surprises, and a few things that were expected but not quite the way they were expected. Some things had to be answered of course.

I think there's so much to talk about I'll probably do it in multiple posts, but I think we may have a new entry for best franchise finale.

A few quickies before I turn in:

There was a Breen conflict but befitting the TNG era parallels this season, it wasn't the centerpiece. Excellent choice...

Instead there was an attempt at diplomacy...it worked for as long as needed.

Within a split second, I knew where they were going with the Progenitor reveal (the episode scores a 10 for having engagement with the Progenitors at all)...by leaving the creation (infinite creation) open, they left any real creation open to a "God" or for whatever placeholder you want to put in there. I'm not a believer but it's a good creative choice. Profound and brilliant.

Moll didn't get what she wanted. A rather large surprise. Another great choice.

The coda(s): Unbelievable. My first Kovich choice was Future Guy, I sort of lost hope during the week we'd find out. This answer is close, and who's to say Daniels isn't a different version of himself as Future Guy.

More Calypso. Again, thought we had that answer. Glad to see my original opinion was correct. Thanks Discovery.

The future of the future of the future: Perfect.

Could have made that clearer. The galaxy is only 1000 lightyears thick. You are never that far away from it.

This is probably my own weird nitpick, but I found it totally unbelievable Kovitch/Daniels had Sisko’s baseball, without there possibly being a very dark implication about Bajor’s future, or maybe implying that Bajoran society has totally changed away from a religion with the Prophets.

Yes, Kira kept it at DS9, seen both in “What You Leave Behind” and Lower Decks. But I have to believe the Bajorans would see it as a holy relic over time. It’s a significant symbolic object that was used by the Emissary, that had meaning to him and that he left at the station as a promise to them (and Dukat) that he would return.

You’re telling me the Bajorans are ok with letting Daniels have it to put in a case instead of keeping it themselves to preserve? It would be like the Vatican letting some dude keep the crucifixion cross in his office instead of preserving it in Rome.

Although, maybe it isn’t THE baseball. Just another one that Sisko had at some point lol.

It does make me wonder if there are connections to every Trek in that scene. I was watching on my phone but it looked like there were a lot of artifacts there collected by Daniels/Kovich.
