Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out the worth/threat of this technology, unless they retcon it to be much more than it was in TNG’s “The Chase.”

The exact words the Ancient Humanoid says in “The Chase” is that they “seeded the primordial oceans of many worlds, where life was in its infancy.” If we take what she said as it is, it still took billions of years to go from Earth’s primordial ocean to humans as a sapient species.

This is a universe where they’ve had 900 years to work on the Genesis Device tech, and the Founders had the ability to genetically engineer and mass produce entire servant species hardcoded to perform specific tasks and view them as gods in the 24th century.

So why would the progenitor’s tech be a threat or be valuable beyond being a historical curiosity?
Possibly because they can do more than just seed worlds, and such things were just no revealed in "The Chase" as their "children" were not ready yet. Perhaps there is more to the story. Perhaps they can not only seed worlds but engineer them, or create super viruses.

The Genesis Device might be child's play in comparison, especially since they cannot make it work, since the one person who made it work is *checks notes* dead. This might be a matter of scale.

Tune in next time for discover more baout the Progenitors. Same Trek time; same Trek channel.

I could see this answer as two-fold.

One, they just expand the meaning of the original episode into something bigger and more elaborate. A soft ret-con.

I would prefer that this leads them to an alternate use for the technology, something peaceful that could be used for war or for gain. Maybe something along the lines of what the Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians thought in The Chase.

I'm thinking possibly this tech might be less specialized than even advanced 32nd-century science. Maybe like the Slaver weapon in the Animated series but on a bigger scale.

Yeah I think a soft retcon of "The Chase" is a distinct possibility. Wouldn't be new to Star Trek. Fereng originally being carnivores. The Borg also comes to mind with originally not beeing in the assimilation business at first. And "The Travelers " all of sudden being ok with interfering with affairs of others as seen In Picard . There are countless more examples of soft retcons in Star Trek..

If it is that, how they massage the retcon will be interesting. I'm undecided on how I feel about it until we get a clearer picture.

The Ferengi are carnivores. Just as much as humans are, if not moreso.

I'm wondering who we are going to see from the MU now that it's fairly evident that they are going on board the ISS ENT 1701. It's not abundantly clear that the ship is in the 2250s or 2260s. But can we hope for goatee Peck Spock. Or would they have been able to pull off a Prime Lorca appearance without it leaking that Isaacs had been filming?

I think the ship is going to be either empty, or all the crew are going to be dead.
Though that wouldn't stop from from finding video log or something.

Another question from me.... the Federation Millenium celebration. Burnham timesuited into 3188, was waiting for Disco for a year, and then there must have been at least a year soent sorting out the Burn and the 10C, so lets say it's 3190 now. I thought Archer founded the Federation in 2161?

The Federation was founded in 2161. The Coalition of Planets preceded that in 2155... the reason Enterprise was at Earth was to be present for the signing of the Coalition in "DEMONS"/"TERRA PRIME".

They mentioned they were off by a couple decades, but with the burn it was put off...

Rewatch the scene, it's explained.
