And the Next Cancelled Show is...

Not canceled but also surprisingly not a one-off: Idris Elba's Hijack is coming back for a second season.

Listen, I loved high-adrenaline absurdity of the show (although the forced face-off at the end was a bit much), but even I think this is silly.

So Sam Nelson finds himself accidently in the middle of another high-stacks terrorist situation, or something similar, and we're all just suppose to accept that and ride along?

Yeah, I guess that makes sense.

John McClane would like a word.

The first one, of course, was wonderful, and has earned itself a permanent place in cinema history.

The second one sucked balls. It was supposed to take place at Dulles Airport in Chantilly, VA, and they couldn't even bother to make it look like Dulles. The rapid swapping back-and-forth between live and blank ammo magazines was completely wrong. You need a blank adapter to allow the weapons to fully cycle, otherwise there isn't enough back-pressure to push the bolt back to load the next round, and if you fired a live round through it with the adapter still attached you'll blow the whole barrel off, if not explode the entire receiver into the user's face. The story was just kind of a formulaic re-hash of the original. With snow mobiles. Pfft...

The third one was quite good, IMO, with Jeremy Irons doing a fantastic job as Hans Gruber's East German baby bro. Samuel L. Jackson rounded out a very well-configured cast. A very good sequel to the original, following the traditional A/B/A trilogy pattern.

The 4th & 5th films were meh. I know I saw them but I found them entirely forgettable, as I don't really remember much about them at all. Lots of driving around in hazardous ways and big 'splosions. I think there were rumors of a sixth film at one time, but since I'm apparently not the only one that found 4 & 5 forgettable, and due to the failing health of Bruce Willis, I suspect it's all done, pending another franchise reboot down the line in another 5-10 years.

For a second there, the way that title was worded with the word "joins", it sounded like P+, D+ and Max were merging. Like, we're finally going to get that Star Trek/Star Wars crossover film!

Then I read the article.

So good news for fans of Our Flag Means Death, looks like Apple is making the same damn show, but "based" on a highwayman instead of a pirate.

Gods, I'm so sick of this shit. Even though I'm not effected this time, it's still incredibly obnoxious.

And then they cry "Why are people pirating?!"

Even beyond that, focusing on Hollywood productions seems like a take that could backfire. One thing that I really appreciate about Netflix is the vast amount of international productions, most of them due to Netflix producing shows and movies for other markets that then become available everywhere, and it's great way to diversify a portfolio that also makes other markets viable to operate in. You often get discoveries that become international hits. It's friendly to the foreign market.

But focusing on Hollywood productions sounds incredibly insular and possibly detrimental to the international base of a streamer. If anything, more streaming services need more foreign content, not less. They could take a page from Netflix.

Nothing can replace OFMD.

They are all doing it these days. I think this is going to make dvds and blu rays popular again. Not to mention that other thing we can't talk about. They are in the end biting themselves in the foot because people don't really need them anymore. They are sort of going to experience what the music industry already figured out after Napster and the rise of the internet. They will need to adjust somehow.

Nah.

Normal humans turn on the tv and watch whatever is on.

The anime website Funimation has laid off all it's staff and is shuttering its doors. The last day the website will be operational is April 2.
Also, Popeye's Chicken has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be closing stores and laying off workers.

What I read was that one Popeye's franchisee is declaring bankruptcy.

Yeah... not the entire operation, but a couple of franchisees with several stores.

And yet in Chicago, with long waits and often out of at least one item, and occasionally rat issues people still go to Popeyes.

I don't know why we're talking about Popeye's, but they have the best food and the worst service all over the country. Every one I've been to has been staffed by complete idiots.

I just did a search for "Popeyes starting pay." Here's what popped up from indeed.com:

Average Popeye's Restaurants hourly pay ranges from approximately $13.99 per hour for Crew Member to $16.83 per hour for Shift Manager. The average Popeye's Restaurants salary ranges from approximately $50,000 per year for District Manager to $59,177 per year for Restaurant Manager.

Yeah, I can't imagine they're attracting the best and brightest with that level of pay.
