Or, "set decades before" could be a sneaky way of saying it's a Kelvin time travel film.
Making their own Axanar to stamp out the fan project once and for all?
announcing a 5th Kelvin Timeline movie before the 4th one has even started filming.
Amazing.
Not really. This prequel fixation is inexplicable. It’s basically prequel-ception at this point.
Oh hell no.I'm guessing this is the Earth-Romulan War script Mark Altman has been talking about for the last few months.
It makes money. No further explanation needed.
Well enough to justify its continued production.Edited to add: SNW seems to be working but we have no way of knowing how well and honestly if they want a prequel feature maybe just make a movie with that cast. It can be Pike’s tragic end.
Sounds good. They’re going to keep doing prequel after prequel, going further back in the timeline until they just remake Apollo 13
Well enough to justify its continued production.
Sounds good.
One, my opinion here will not sway the people actually making these decisions.Aren’t you usually on the “we need to have something new” train?
Opening up a new set of stories around, say, the start of the 23rd century would give Scott Bakula and Jolene Blalock a chance to return and tie up the loose ends of Enterprise,

Two, if Abrams is producing then it at least has my interest piqued enough to consider watching.
Third, Apollo missions and such got me interested in space travel in the first place.
Finally, I'm getting two new things I want: Section 31 and Starfleet Academy.
I know prequels are money right now so them taking that route bothers me very little.
People are going to treat this poorly no matter what. I'm going to be optimistic.
I have no idea if it's smart. Nor do I care. It's their money to burn.Ok, that’s all cool but I guess I’m just not on the “prequels are money” train with you. I think the best thing we can say is that they are gamble that sometimes pays off. I’m skeptical but I certainly hope it’s good and will go see it if they make it. I’m not sure continuously going backward in the Trek timeline is a smart financial or creative decision but I’m not the a writer or producer, so…
The sad thing is, this could potentially be interesting. Seth Grahame-Smith is a pretty good writer, at least in prose. The novel version of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and its sequel The Last American Vampire are awesome. And though not as good as the book, the movie version of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter was pretty damn good itself. I want to see what he can do with Star Trek and having someone from Andor involved is also intriguing.
But I'm not holding my breath on this at all. As much as I hate to say it, that Picard movie announced last week has a better chance of getting made than this does.
