On the video commentary for The Giggle, RTD confirmed the bi-regeneration kicked in retroactively for each classic Doctor

So that makes "Tales of the Tardis" true.

The Bi-Regeneration phenomenon not only affected this regeneration, but also affected all the Doctor's previous Regenerations at the same time. So , without the Doctor knowing up until this point, each of his/her Regenerations created a Copy of the Doctor's previous form which is independent of the Doctor (For example, when the Fifth Doctor regenerated, then a copy of the Fifth Doctor which would become independent was created while the main body became the 6th Doctor and so and so)

So there’s yet another Doctor out there with Tennant’s face?!

I wonder if maybe 14 will become The Curator, and his TARDIS the museum where Gallifrey Falls No More is kept. As he continues along his regeneration cycle, he only takes the faces of his own former incarnations because he's become nostalgic in his old age.

That was my first thought too, it even lines up with retiring and using the same old favourite faces:

Wouldn’t there be three Tennant’s?
Four, counting the human one. Three bigenerated duplicates produced in "Journey's End," "The End of Time," and "The Giggle," plus the human one also from "Journey's End" that went with Rose.

So, that's, like, four incompatible explanations for why returning Doctors look old (six, including one-offs like the human Tenth Doctor and season 6b), two for why the Doctor doesn't have a regeneration limit... God, I wish this show would stop explaining things.

That's a good idea. But I just can't see a Doctor just "retiring" like that, I don't think you can leave a Doctor and TARDIS just sitting there in the same universe.

I read rumours of a Disney+ 6 part series starring Tennant and I guess this is setting that up.

The bi-regeneration felt a bit cheap, lessened the new guy's entire existence somewhat. If it keeps happening we could have a Doctor who folded himself scenario.

Fun episode, though.

Do the old face Doctors retain regeneration ability? if that is the case we might as well look at a weird exponential growth situation.

I guess this feeds into a multiverse scenario that RTD is trying to grow.

or what Donna said in journeys end

“Lop a bit off, grow another one? You're like worms”

the doctors are multiplying and spreading out into the galaxy

My own personal head canon that I will cling to until it’s explicitly contradicted is that neither 15 nor the ‘new’ TARDIS are in any way split off from 14. As 15 says, you’re ok because you fixed yourself, it’s just ‘happening in reverse.’

So when 14 decides it’s time to go, he’ll regenerate to 15 in the exact moment of ‘bi-generation’ and the TARDIS will merge again.

Regardless, I loved the episode and Gatwa’s intro. The Doctor is in good hands.

this also allows the past living doctors to come back and do present day stories with the current doctor

they’re not confined to just being a relic of time

Bi-regeneration fifth doctor could meet 15 at some point

This was a great compromise. I liked it. Admittedly, I haven't been an avid fan of this show since the 50th, but this was good.

Now they have two Doctors in play;

A Classic Doctor for the more conservative DW fans. One that can regenerate into all his old faces perhaps.

And a Modern Doctor that reflects what the show (and BBC) has become over the last few years. A Doctor that can go full-Queer; dance around in a skirt, have male love interests and have drag-queen companions. All those are coming.

If that is too intense for some fans, they can always bring back OG Doctor to keep those fans watching. Best of both worlds.

It's actually a smart move to avoid the declining viewership of 13.

Oof, just saw this retro-active bi-generation stuff and I really don't love that. Oh well, since it hasn't happened on the show yet (tales of the TARDIS most definitely doesn't count) I'll simply choose to ignore it for now.

Naff.
I’d go into it, but don’t have time.
Game of sodding catch.
Spin-off of itself.

Wonderful special, even if it wasn't quite I expected or even hoped for. Still, it was tremendous fun and it was especially delightful to see Mel back in the action of everything. With her working with UNIT now, I hope we get to see more of her and perhaps even a Mel and Ace reunion. I loved hearing about how Sabalom Glitz lived out his days, even if it was surprising that Mel stuck with for so long.

The first half of the episode was wonderfully creepy with all of The Toymaker's dolls and games, but I do wish the episode had leaned more into those scenes instead of essentially abandoning them after The Doctor and Donna fled the Emporium. The Toymaker's song and dance intro was perfectly bonkers, but after that it felt like the episode became a generic Davies finale with the exception of that one thing...

I both love and hate the biregeneration. I heard people refer to it openly prior to this episode, so I was slightly annoyed that I was spoiled on that. But despite taking that surprise away, it is a curious twist...even if it feels like Davies having his cake and eating, too, all over again, just as he did with The Meta-Crisis Doctor. I get the point of doing it and allowing The Doctor to relax finally, but at the same time it still feels like a bit of a cheat. I'll have to sleep on this one.

Another reason I take issue to the biregeneration is that I thought Davies had finally done something that I've been hoping for years: A regeneration in the middle of the episode (although what I really want is a surprise, real regeneration in a middle of an episode but that'll never happen in this day and age...). Alas, that wasn't the case but at the same time, it's true. Maybe I'm being too nitpicky.

Either way, it was great seeing Ncuti Gatwa as The Fifteenth Doctor for more than a few moments before the crashing cliffhanger. I already love his energy and I cannot wait to see what he does with the role...and with a full wardrobe. Plus! His TARDIS has a jukebox! That'll be a lot of fun.

...which brings up another issue I'm on the fence on: Twinning the TARDIS. I wasn't really a fan of that with Clara and Me (mind you, that was a bit different) and I'm not sure how I feel about it here. Unless the means of twinning the TARDIS comes back to haunt The Doctor since the giant mallet evoked The Toymaker's chaos, right down to "winning the prize." Considering the mysterious hand claiming the dropped golden tooth (what is it with Davies and close-up shots of a woman's hand picking up a remaining fragment of a defeated foe as a tease of what's to come?), I feel like that might not be too much of a stretch.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode but a rewatch in a few days will be in order to fully appreciate (or not) everything.

I quite liked that the resolution to the challenge was a simple game of catch to be honest. Also, him shifting accents throughout I felt was because The Doctor beat him last time by mimicking his voice to end their last contest.
