Spoilers Legacy characters in Season 3

Why is Leila Kalomi so popular a character? She keeps being brought up on this board, and I have no idea who she is. I'd use the internet to look her up, but I feel like I might fall into some sort of Star Trek minutiae chasm and will come out looking for more stories about that old man lawyer who wasn't very good in that one episode of TOS.
Character from a TOS episode, This Side of Paradise. She and Spock met on Earth, She was attracted to him. They meet again on a colony world and some plant strips away Spock's Vulcan control They fall in love. But Kirk cures him. Tragic ending.

Not exactly an answer to the thread question, but I would love an episode focussed on Robert April. Possibly a flashback to when he captained the ship. Last time we saw him he and Pike didn't part on the best of terms. Maybe flash back to a point when Pike was his first officer and they became friends?

Other than that I'm also going to guess we'll see both Korby and possibly McCoy soon-ish.

I mentioned it in another thread, but I recently re-watched "This Side of Paradise", and there was no real relationship between Leila Kalomi and Spock. She lamented repeatedly that he couldn't or wouldn't give her the time of day. Then, when the spores hit Spock, he suddenly loves her with this fake intensity that comes out of nowhere. People have managed to infer that Spock and Leila had some prior relationship, but the episode's own dialog does not bear that out- they've merely met before and she had the hots for him- like any number of other women who have encountered Spock.

As for the question posed in the OP, the only other legacy character I'd like to see is Roger Korby. Otherwise, let's get away from this incestuous 'small universe' syndrome and leave TOS out of Pike's era. We don't need any other crewmember from Kirk's tenure, or any of TOS' guest characters in prequel roles. No Sulu, Rand, Scott, McCoy, or even Mr. Leslie and his clones.

Be fresh. Be new. Be innovative.

I’m good if we don’t ever revisit any original Discovery characters on SNW. No Ash Tyler, no L’Rell, no Lorca not even Georgiou...and I actually like her. The less revisiting Disco S1-2 the better.

As for others, just like I think we’ll no doubt get a mirror episode in S3, I think we will absolutely meet either Bones or Scotty in S3. Maybe Piper if they decide to have M’Benga leave after the events of this past weeks episode and stick with the idea that Kirk started off his 5 year with a different CMO.

I’m expecting Korby to pop up this season at some point. I would expect he’ll be there next season too unless they just completely write Bush/Chapel out of the show completely. And I don’t think they’d do that given her popularity and storyline.

I feel they could do another season long Federation-Klingon war arc in SNW, and just kill off the DIS S1-2 characters in this war (even a personal favourite of mine in Po) to symbolize the transition to the TOS era. While Pike has to watch from afar and we see his frustration at not being able to participate in the war again. To the point he does something reckless because he knows he himself won’t come to harm because of his preordained fate.

Maybe it restarts because the Broken Circle succeeds this time. And this time, they get the backing of Dennas and the House of D’Ghor. Maybe that’s how L’Rell dies. This also creates a reason to bring in Siobhan Tilly in an attempt to help end the war, only to be taken out by a suicide bomb forcing Sarek to step in. And for Ash Tyler to return for an undercover mission relating to the Broken Circle. With Admiral Terral occupying the same role Admiral Ross had in DS9, though in this case he dies.

But that’s just me.

Colt, Rand and Physicist Sulu.

Considering she was actually one of the top billed characters early on in TOS, I’m surprised we’ve never met Rand in either the Kelvin or SNW incarnations. I’d love to see her.

Apart from that, I don’t get the fans’ general obsession with Legacy this, Legacy that. We’re actually already got Legacy characters coming out our ears. It’s a big universe, let’s meet some new people.

Not sure if she'd be called "top billed". Shatner and Nimoy were the only ones top billed in season one. Whitney was in the closing credits with Kelley as "featuring".

Have we actually seen any crew member being referred to as a Yeoman in SNW?
(which is what Rand was)

I don't remember off the top of my head.

No, Korby is most definitely male. Even in SNW. They've namedropped him a couple of times, particularly in "Charades".

Chappel is bisexual and the actress is queer.

What I'm about to say is probably the stupidest question ever. So I'm going to spoilercode it just because it sounds so stupid. Read at your own risk.

Chappel is bisexual and the actress is queer.

Isn't that the same thing?

I mean, I had been given to understand that basically any orientation other than straight, qualifies as queer. So 'queer' could mean bi OR gay.

Am I wrong on this?
See? Told ya. :sigh:

Some Discovery characters would be nice.

I wonder how L'Rell would look.

I think I heard a line in "Under the Cloak of War" which

established the current Chancellor as male, indicating that L'Rell has been deposed/killed

But I wouldn't half mind bringing back Mary Chieffo, as a different character. I'm sure she'd jump at the chance to play a human, so she wouldn't have to go through all that Klingon makeup!

Chapel is not the same thing as actor Jess Bush, which is why there is a distinction.

We see Tuvok's parents walk by, still decades from parenthood, when they overhear "Tuvok" in the background. They comment on how it would be nice to call a son "Tuvok", not realizing it was a word for Bolian diaper rash.
