TAS wasnt a futurama type show. LD is. Also they never had a crossover with another star trek show with a starfleet officer saying "oh yeah. Here is the period where we were two demensional." All i can figure is the lower decks crew are raging alcholics and those drinks boimer makes have them seeing delusions the whole series.
You are a very literal person, aren't you dear?

As I said before, I haven't been able to watch S2 so far, but i think it would be wise for the naysayers to remember the comedy episodes of the X-Files and how little sense most of them made regarding the canon of that show ;)

Youre right. Remember the Genie episode? I believe most of the comedy eps were self contained.

My expectations for this could not have been higher, and this satisfied them completely. What an incredible home run. I add it to my list of instant classics of the modern era ("If Memory Serves", "The Last Generation", "wej Duj", "First First Contact" are the others that spring to mind).

It was especially sweet coming on the heels of last week, which was a textbook example of how NOT to do a big guest star story. Kirk in "Lost In Translation" smothered the SNW characters and ruined that episode.

By contrast, Boimler and Mariner were dominant presences here, but they are constantly used to bring interesting things out of the SNW characters. I couldn't believe how many of the running subplots Boimler and Mariner seemed to meaningfully impact. I would have been satisfied with just a fun side adventure in the mode of "Trials And Tribble-ations", and this managed to be that, plus meaningful emotional heft.

Brilliant! The odds against this succeeding were so high, and they cleared all the obstacles with such grace it felt effortless.

Mariner and Boimler told almost all SNW characters way too much about their futures. I would have preferred if they acted a bit more normally around the SNW characters and were only goofing around full LD style when they were alone. Like in the brig for instance. They should've been thrown in.

It was really funny though.

But it keeps bugging me that Mariner and Boimler's futurespoilery yapping may have influenced multiple characters' career paths way too much. Could've worked as a hilarious episode without this.

Better to not think about it, too many grandfather paradoxes.

**Compartmentalize** ... **compartmentalize**

I think some things, like Spock/Chapel and even Uhura would’ve and could’ve happened anyway. To me the only thing they really changed was Pike.

I hate Lower Decks and wish agonizing painful deaths on all of the characters whenever I try to watch so much as a 30 second clip of the show.

This episode didn't change my mind.

In "seasons" that only have 10 episodes, wasting one on this wretched crew with their unprofessional, spoiled brats, is a shame. There are actually good Trek shows they could have crossed over with, instead of this trash show.

And before someone says "nobody is forcing you to watch it," as seems to be a ridiculous comment: you're right. Nobody forced me to watch this episode. But they did include characters I love from a show I love in a franchise I love.

They just put the fictional character equivalent of dog crap all over what is otherwise a delicious steak.

If I hated Lower Decks yesterday, I hate it even more today for ruining this episode and wasting my time and taking up time that could have been spent on characters I give a damn about.

so…an 8?

I have to admit they shouldnt have done it. Lower decks is a comedy on the level of futurama. Star trek while havng comedy in the past never got that silly. Crossing over with a cartoon was a jump the shark moment for star trek. Spock is currently becoming a joke after this episode. I was really enjoying the show up to this point but wow bad choice. So now a silly cartoon is part of canon? Not even sure how that would fit. Weve had 3 time travel eps in a season and a half and this one was the worst. This was on the level of lost in spsce(1960s) series silliness. No thank you.

lower decks has been part of canon since it premiered.

He's answering Beckett's original question, "How are you so excited for some random portal no one's ever heard of?" The statements between that and him answering are them arguing semantics.
Watching it yet again, he answers the "no one's ever heard of part" with a line about historians, but it doesn't really segue naturally to the "excited for some random portal" part because she moves on to talking about how it won't do anything.
I guess I can parse the discussion, but it just feels... like out of order or something. Like she should be replying to him about the portal not doing anything. But this is just a random nitpick at this point. lol

Well to be fair except for one joke form Boimer about everything looking realistic. No one made comments about being from a universe that looked like a cartoon or vice versa. Because it was not presented as a cartoon universe. The Enterprise Crew did not get turned into cartoons it was the drink causing them to hallucinate that.
But it worked well in the context of the ep.

Boimler mentioned how realistic the away team looked when he first came through the portal - a clear reference to their non-cartoon appearance.

The audacity of these writers.

Not everyone is loving and adoring every aspect of this episode simply because it contains Lower Decks. The audacity!
