What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I love both the VGR and SNW themes. The only theme I actively hate is the ENT theme. The images/scenes are excellent, but the song... UGH! I always either skip it or put it on mute to watch the theme.

Controversial opinion: Not only is season 1 the worst season of ENT, season 2 is the best season. Not because it's amazing, there are plenty of issues, but its the only genuinely solid season of the show overall. 3 and 4 are better than 1 and certainly more ambitious than 2 but ultimately massive failures that never really succeed at what they're trying to do.

Well, you did then post a picture showing how the outside isn't that different. Bridge, BC deck, impulse engines, dorsal, defector dish, three sensors around the dish, pylons (now angled, sure) warp engines still about the same proportions, hangar deck about the same size.

Did TMP cost more money? Yup. Do current shows cost more money? Yup.

I give up. Clearly all these ships really look absolutely identical and I lack the special insight you possess that enables me to see it.

I've got one that is even less controversial than that.

"THESE ARE THE VOYAGES..." is THE WORST series finale of the franchise. (To date.)
Are we counting “Turnabout Intruder” as a series finale? Because that episode is part of the lower tier of TOS and could give “These are the Voyages…” a run for its money.

I think it's fun to choose a random episode to kill 50 minutes, but I recall my marathon years back was a slog. Especially coming off the back of DS9 which was incredibly rewarding to marathon.

I think DS9 is a very good show, but vastly overrated. I believe it could have been better than TNG and VOY, but had failed to live up to that potential. Pity.

You seem to lack the special insight to read what I wrote both in reply to you and also to others not very far down the thread.

If you're arguing that the JJ-prise is a rejection of TOS? I can probably get on board with that. :techman:

I agree with you, Turnabout Intruder is in my bottom 3 TOS episodes, and certainly in my 10 least favorite Trek episodes. But I'm not sure I'd count it as a finale, it just happens to be the last episode they broadcast.

Well you've ignored or mischaracterised everything I've written so why not. I also don't go out of my way to obsessively read your responses to other people, a personal failing on my part I'm sure.

Absolutely including "TURNABOUT INTRUDER" in that list, because despite it not being a very good episode, at least it was about the characters of its own series, not a shoehorned in 'dilemma' of a character from an episode of a different show that ended 11 years earlier.

Besides, it wasn't meant to be a finale, anyway... just was the last aired episode.

Are you OK?

The SNW Enterprise is 442m long, as opposed to the usually stated length of 289m for The Original Series version or 305m for the refit.
I might be thinking feet. Or JJ. Or just wrong. Not sure. It's bigger. Thanks!

I love the VOY theme. The TNG theme is better, but I disqualify it because it wasn't originally written for the show

The great Jerry Goldsmith: a composer so good, the only theme song that beats his own creation is... another one he creates.
I always love that the Star Trek theme he created wasn't the original iteration for The Motion Picture. The one we know is the result of director Robert Wise telling him that his first creation "didn't have a theme."

You can hear elements of the final version in the original, but the initial theme is definitely more evocative of sailing ships and you don't really get that climactic riff.
