Is every episode SOMEBODY'S favorite?

Except maybe Quantum of Solace.
Only thing I even remember about that one is Bond going back to the PPK. In other words, giving up nine rounds of magazine capacity and trading down to a round about one-third as powerful. Like trading in a broadsword for a steak knife. Rest of the movie... I don't know... had something to do with water I think.

Quantum of Solace is vastly underrated.

Surely it's no where near even the top 50 episodes though.l like Move along Home in a kind of 'so bad it's good way.' But Profit and Lace......
I think "Move Along Home" is a bit underrated, possibly because Avery Brooks mentioned his opinion of having to play alien hopscotch.

But "Profit and Lace" somehow manages to be completely misogynistic when it was presumably trying to be pro-female equality. And on top of all that, it's just plain dumb.

I like a lot of the crap episodes. "A Night in Sickbay", "Turnabout Intruder", "Code of Honor." I absolutely love "Threshold" and Robbie McNeill's performance. I love Star Trek V. I don't like "Shades of Grey" but I am sympathetic to it, like it's a car with flat tyres pulling a caravan trying to compete in Formula 1.

It was a play on the title. A joke. I know I’ve seen the episode because I watched all of DS9 as it was aired, and I know it is very frequently criticized, but I’m pretty sure it’s been over 25 years since I’ve seen that particular episode, so I don’t really recall any of its details.

I like "Turnabout Intruder" for its historic import, being the last TOS episode. As for "Threshold", however.... I do respect each fan's favorite episodes, though.

"Threshold" was a pretty decent character piece sandwiched between two truly appalling bits. First, the notion of a shuttlecraft going Warp 10, that's a little like finding a street legal engine that will go 300 mph and putting it in a minivan. And second, salamanders. Nuff said.

The Outrageous Okona is not anyone's favorite episode. Although, there is one exception that could be exploited that allows for it to occupy someone's favorite episode slot: if The Outrageous Okona is the first episode of Star Trek the person ever watches. Following this, they would naturally vow never to watch one more frame of that stupid space show ever again. Consequentially, The Outrageous Okona exists as the best and worst episode for the individual in question, given their sample size of Trek will never exceed 1.

I did not read your comment properly! As Data would say, "humour, I love it!"

I give you the 1500hp minivan.

I kind of like "Let He Who Is Without Sin..."

I don't think "The Way to Eden" is half as bad as most people, nor do I think "Spock's Brain" is unwatchable.

I love Star Trek V and I don't think Star Trek: Nemesis is the worst TNG movie.

That said, none of those are my "favorites." Star Trek V was my favorite for a while back in the day, but time has seen TMP, TWOK, TSFS surpass it just because those are tighter films.

. "Code of Honor" has basically no redeeming qualities and have yet to read of anybody saying otherwise.

Code of Honor suffers from casting. If you read the transcript without knowing the actual visuals, there is nothing racist detectable. If they'd made the Ligonians multi ethnic or even aliens in heavy make up (like lizards or something), there would not be this negative stench about the episode.

The guys on Mission Log did a great dissection of this troubled episode

Or just had them all be white folks with funny prosthetic foreheads.

I could actually make a case for Spock's Brain as my favourite episode of TOS. I don't actually think that, but I could make a case.

"Spock's Brain" is fun to watch. Once, in 1997, on another board that's defunct now, I listed it as one of my Top 10 Episodes. The responses I got to that... It's a miracle I lived to see another day.

Interesting that you should say that, because it touches upon an aspect of my original question that I didn't verbalize. Groupthink, or the desire we all have (I assume) to want to be on the winning team. The whole concept of "guilty pleasure" (and I will exaggerate here a little) is based on feeling shame and fearing social ostracism, so to speak, for deriving pleasure from something that is not generally accepted as a valid source of pleasure. Right? We don't ever see these things in a vacuum, and once the group has decided "this thing is not good", we apply a more critical look to that thing. Either we end up agreeing, if only to be able to feel like "Phew, I'm normal, I do feel the way everyone else feels after all" or we kind of admit to ourselves "I still like this thing, I don't know why everyone else is so critical". But in the latter case, we may not shout that from the rooftops because we know how people especially on social media (Twitter!!) can get when a dissenting voice is heard.

So what I was saying originally, I guess is: Come forth, release your shame and tell us how you really feel! :)
