What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Another one:
I hate all the supersized starship fleets
(All DS9 battles, First Contact, DIS & especially all PIC season finales, even the otherwise great SNW ep10)
It looks ridiculous, and makes all the ships look puny on screen.

The perfect fleet size is around ~a dozen or less ships on each side.
(e.g. TNG's BOBW & redemption, ST09, ENT's fleet battles).
It makes every single ship still feel massive, gives every loss weight, and the the sheer scope and size of having so many ships with thousands of people on board feels imposing and impressive.

That's pretty controversial, considering the size of the Federation. I'd say the fleets we've been shown are puny, by comparison to what would actually be necessary to defend that volume of space and number of star systems.

For the DS9 MU episodes, I feel like after Crossover (which I think is genuinely good) they basically just saw it as an excuse to have the actors play OOC for an episode; to give them an excuse to show off their range.

Other than Colm Meaney, since Miles was just a miserable git in every possible alternative universe.

I thought the first 3 DS9 Mirror episodes (Crossover, Through the Looking Glass and Shattered Mirror) were good. Resurrection was meh and Emperors New Cloak is easily the worst mirror universe episode across the 4 series that used that arc. Hell, it’s arguably the worst DS9 episode…period.

The bottom worst episodes of DS9, my opinion...

5. "LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN..."
4. "PRODIGAL DAUGHTER"
3. "THE RECKONING"
2. "THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOAK"
1. "PROFIT AND LACE"

Depending on mood, #3 and #2 can switch sometimes, but these bottom 5 have been consistent with me for many years.

"Let He Is Without Sin..." can be argued to be the one Trek episode that will condemn our planet to complete destruction once the aliens see the transmission.

I've only seen it once, too. Same with Profit and Lace, and a few others.
I thought "Profit and Lace" was just dumb in 1998. So I've always thought it was a bad episode, but I didn't realize the degree to which it was bad at the time. I wasn't thinking of it in the way I'd think about it today. I just wasn't thinking about things in those terms yet. Now I think it's as offensive as "Code of Honor". Just shows how much sensibilities can change.

Nah, there are much worse. Profit and Lace comes to mind.

I did say arguably but yeah, Profit and Lace is terrible.

I like The Reckoning

At least it gave us the why of Worf, which was the only redeeming factor of that episode.

agreed, the why of Worf was the best part. But I’ve never really hated this episode like most. It’s just “meh”. Kinda like “A Night in Sickbay”.

I think I like the first couple of Enterprise seasons the most out of the four. Guess I just like planet/alien/weirdness of the week more than heavily-serialized Trek.

For me, "THE RECKONING" is horrible because it actively damages Sisko's character and one of THE cornerstones of the entire series... him as a role model of being a good father.

They had the chroniton pulse that would have driven the pah-wraith (and the Prophet) out, but instead of safely removing the threat from Jake, he let the battle go forward. That battle was clearly not going to leave either Kira or Jake in a good place based on the amount of blood already coming out of their noses and eyes. He was ready to sacrifice his son for the Prophets, even if it was under some misguided notion that 'the Prophets will protect him'. That is NOT the father we have seen and loved for (at that point) 6 years.

With "LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN...", the episode really painted Worf in a bad way. Never mind that he was pretty grumpy for someone on vacation, but he ruined the vacations of a whole planet of people just to prove a point. That's pretty dickish behavior, honestly.

I'm glad you enjoyed them more than I did, and my list was simply my opinion. I just wanted to elaborate on why I chose them.
