What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

She's manoeuvrable because she's very powerful for her size while being smaller than almost any other class of starship. She's not particularly fast, especially by the standards of 2370s starships.
If I was to analogize the "Defiant Class", I'd say he's similar to WWE's Chad Gable.

Small Man, MASSIVE amounts of Strength.
Chad Gable is 5'8" & weighs 200 lbs, but he can DeadLift German Suplexes a 6'8" 385 lb Braun Strowman.

The Defiant-class is also Tiny, but punches WELL above it's weight/mass class for a ship of it's size.

And yet is the Defiant-class that different from the Sabre-class? Both small post-Wolf 359 designs, both with nacelles directly attached to a oddly-shaped and somewhat angular saucer, both powerful for their size... the only real difference is that the Sabre-class seems to have better shuttlebay facilities and proper impulse engines.
The Saber-class doesn't seem to focus on Pulse Phaser's as it's primary damage dealer and uses standard Phaser Arrays as it's main DEW (Directed Energy Weapon).

So the Saber-class would be better in a 3D manuevering battle while the Defiant-class would be better in a hit & run / Heavy Pounding on strafing runs battle.

Two very different type of primary tactical mind-sets when your main weapons are very different.

The Saber is supposed to fly around the target and jab it with it's Phaser Array emitters and keep poking, like it's class name-sake.

The Defiant is supposed to go in on strafing runs and machine-gun punch it's way through it's targets shield and then run away and manuever back for more attack runs.

That's how I interpret the different design philosophies.

A lot of the discussion is around tactical / combat capabilities of various classes. I'm quite sure that there are many other variables that go into the differences between classes as well.

Well, a clearly distinct ship is the Oberth class. They are basically purely science ships.

Definitely not fighting in any major battles because their weapons/defensive capabilities are minimal.

You mean like at the battle of Sector 001 and Wolf 359?

Oberths were there also

They are referring to "DEAR DOCTOR" from ENTERPRISE.

Still salty that the Episode didn't end with Archer giving them some advanced medical tech and some advice about how to fix their genetic problem. The idea being it would take too long for Phlox to make the finished cure himself. Then the next season we find out that they screwed up the cure and unleashed a virus (or something) that killed off both populations. This was the perfect opportunity to show the inciting incident that made Starfleet so strict about interference and sharing technology.

There were, but that was an all hands on deck situation with the cube heading toward Earth. Any ship in the area was going to be called upon to fight.

Oberth class ships would not normally be patrolling the Neutral Zone or being part of the Battle of Chin'toka or other missions that have a fair chance of seeing action. Planetary surveys, star surveys, or even supply runs, yes.

Look, every ship of whatever type will always have the capabilities the writers want them to have, so in that sense they’re all identical. If they decide a small-looking ship has a gigantic auditorium inside, then it just does.

True. Whatever goes with the writers, goes. We've already seen far future ships that are far larger on the inside than on the outside (in Enterprise).

If they'd decide that in e..g. the Discovery future version a particular ship class is so advanced that ships of that class can easily fit in their entirety in their own shuttlebays, we'll also have to accept that as canon ;)

I don't think it's bad either. It's just ... different from the more orchestral songs we've had before and after, and that could take some getting used to.

The images of the ENTERPRISE theme are excellent. Perfect for the show.

The lyrics... I can actually get behind them, in terms of the images and the show.

But the music was horrendous. They even made it worse, which I didn't think was possible, with the seasons 3-4 version.
