Does anyone else find it wholly …inappropriate that Beverly names her and Picard’s secret son after her long dead husband?? I mean, talk about adding insult to injury. She really must have had it in for Jean-Luc for whatever reason.

She sure got a LOT of explaining to do.

YES.

Re: her explaining to do... wondering if the last time Picard saw her (which he references in Ep01 and said it wasn't left on the best of terms) will come up again and explain it. Maybe she asked him to quit Starfleet and move to the suburbs and start a family with her and he said no, I'm over that. I like Jack a lot but I can't fathom how they're going to sell this.

Also, I've now read two reviews where the reviewers think that Jack didn't know Picard was his father until Picard said it over comms. That wasn't the impression I got at ALL- Jack clearly knew a lot about Picard (comments about his rank, his vineyard) , his sincere "well it was nice meeting you" when he thought they were going to die, the uncomfortableness with the "who's your father" conversation. Am I seeing something that's not there? My assumption is that Bev told Jack everything and Jack knew exactly who Picard was.

Well, that's ONE of his names anyway. ;) The boy's full name is René Jacques Robert Francois Picard.

I remember that guy. Chad Lindberg. He was in one of my favorite Law & Order: SVU episodes ("Fallacy"). Lucky bastard got to kiss Katherine Moennig...

I don't think Beverly meant anything ill by it.

First off, she clearly has nothing against Picard as such, otherwise she would never have contacted him in the first place. They may not have worked out as lovers, but clearly she still cares for Picard and trusts him implicitly.

Secondly, she might have chosen the name "Jack" as a reminder of what she'd lost. Jean-Luc is still alive, and she can contact him whenever she wants. Jack Sr., OTOH, has been dead for decades, so Beverly may have named her son as a bit of nostalgia for her beloved departed husband.

And lastly, she may have thought that naming the boy Jean-Luc might attract attention that she doesn't want. The name "Jack Crusher" wouldn't raise any red flags, since Jack Sr. was a well known and respected officer. People hear that name, they'll shrug it off and not get suspicious. But perhaps Beverly didn't want to drag Jean-Luc into whatever mess seems to have developed, so she chose to leave his name out of it.[/url]

I thought that guy looked familiar, and now that you said his name is Chad Lindberg...

That's Ash from SUPERNATURAL!!!

It's possible Jean-Luc might have done the same. As stated, Jack was his best friend.
No I don't think so. If Picard had his way he would probably name his first son after his nephew that died in a fire - Renee.

I can see the scene now:

Jean-Luc Picard: " So Beverly, why didn't you tell me you were pregnant, and then cut off all contact between us for 20 years?"

Beverly Crusher: "Because I knew once he was born, you would want to name him Renee;: and dammit Jean-Luc, I promised myself if I had another son, I'd name him Jack..."

Jean-Luc Picard: "it's a fair cop..."
;)

I think I just came up with a perfect time for Picard/ Crusher to have hooked up! It could’ve happened in the gap between Generations and First Contact and that would be perfect. The time factor is just about right and Picard was very distraught over the loss of his brother and nephew. Would make sense for him to seek comfort with Bev

Yeah the "kid" looks much older than 20. He looks closer to 35. They need to come up with solution to that. The DNA strands that we see at the end of the credits might give a clue. This guy might not have been conceived totally a natural way.

There you go then! Explained!

To be fair he's lived a life on the run, hunted, in places hated... why shouldn't he look rough?

Every little thing doesn't need a line of dialogue to join the dots. You just did it all by yourself.

I do that a lot in current trek anyway. Am examole: Why does pikes enterprise look so different and more advanced than Kirk's from TOS? Kirk wanted a refit for a simpler more clean cut look. Since the crew complement doubled they also had to make the quarters smaller especially pikes. Uh yeah yeah that's the ticket. Lol

I can never understand the need for explanations for this stuff. It rarely has an impact on the stories. The sets for TOS and SNW are different. Pike and Kirk's ships, not so much.
