What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

That the episode in season 6 of Star Trek Voyager where the character Kes is humiliated and destroyed should be wiped out from all future DVD and Blu-Ray releases, thet i would never be streamed or aired on TV and that it would be totally forgotten as a result of that.

Wow. That's the first time I have heard anyone say that episode was dull. Not knocking your opinion because everyone has their own tastes, but I'm genuinely shocked at that. (Particularly as it's one of my two absolute favorites in TOS, the other being "THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE".)

Can you tell me why you think it's dull? Genuinely curious.

I just find it slow. It's interesting but doesn't do it for me.

I can think of a few other episodes that deserve a similar trip to oblivion. Lizard babies, Quark in a dress, and Beverly [torpedo launch sound] a ghost to name some obvious ones.

think if anything that would make "Fury" the most well-known episode of all of Voyager. Quite possibly the only one many people outside the fandom will have ever heard of.

You're probably right... it would be like that Pokémon episode where James has boobs.

I love "The Doomsday Machine" too, but when I showed it to my wife when I was introducing Star Trek to her (TOS Remastered version), she couldn't stop snickering the entire episode. Then I showed her footage from the original version, and she just laughed in my face.

I've seen BoT and the original, "The Enemy Below". It's a different kind of drama, a drama based on tension and suspense. It has to move more slowly to build that tension and suspense. Now YMMV, but there is the reason.
Oh, I agree, but I enjoy both and BOT is my goto Trek episode. I think submarine warfare is fascinating and will recommend many movies on that basis alone.

The actual Doomsday Machine itself is pretty funny to look at. It's a giant blue ice cream cone in space. Otherwise it's a great episode. Commodore Decker also goes really over-the-top sometimes. "There was! BUT NOT ANYMORE!"

I've seen the actual prop, it does not look like much. We are talking real low rent here.

And yet, it's an excellent episode. (At the very least, I have never seen "THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE" on any list of mediocre or bad episodes.)

Proof that you don't need a giant budget to tell a great story. Further proof: a lot of the fan favorites and great episodes are bottle shows.

If it's not on the page, it's not on the stage as the saying goes. A big budget and great FX do not great film make. Shows like Star Trek and early Dr Who show this. Dental Floss budget and yet they tell compelling stories.

NON Controversial Star Trek opinion: Good story telling is not budget dependent.

I don't like Aztecing and I think it often is horribly executed.

There is no reason Starfleet would be plastering weird, off-colour and near cyclopean plates on their ships. At the least they should be much more uniform in color, size, and texture; save for actual, temporary battle damage control.
I think we need more "Smooth" new car finish instead of Aztecing.

Indeed. One aspect of these episodes is the strong conviction of what these seemingly silly things good do. It goes back to acting, and really selling what sounds incredibly ridiculous, but evokes an emotion in the audience. Stage practice helps sell it.
