Future's end romance?

brosy

I've heard rumours that during the episode Future's end Robert Beltran and Kate Mulgrew were more than just good friends does anyone know if the rumours are true?

I remember hearing rumours years ago that something had been going on around the first few seasons. I never believed it though. :p

I heard those rumors. A couple of sources seemed quite trustworthy.

The romantic in me really likes the idea.

If it were true, it obviously didn't work out.

So the romantic in me hopes that they're reasonably happy in their separate lives.

i suppose that would explain why sometimes at conventions and interviews they seem to snipe at each other a bit. Hope they are still friends though be a shame if not.

Supposedly, Robert made a comment at one of the Galaxy Balls that he and Kate were closer than anyone realized during the filming of that ep.

Of course, no one can seem to agree on how he said it and how everyone reacted to it.

Depending on the source, he could've said it teasingly, seriously, or angrily, and he either completely shocked his costars (supposedly even causing Roxann to cry), amused them, or there was no reaction from them.

The only thing anyone can seem to agree on is that he did say something like that. Given Beltran can be very candid at times, but he's also been known to say things simply for the sake of stirring things up, that perhaps weren't exactly true just for the reaction, well, neither would surprise me.

That was the 2001 Galaxy Ball.

HOW he said it is difficult to determine--the man jokes around and has a dry (and wry) sense of humor.

I don't recall seeing Roxann crying or shocked, but IIRC she put a stop to his continuing. The others didn't really react.
Their lack of reaction made me think it was true.
Roxann's reaction made me think that either it was not true, or that she felt his continuing would have been an intrusion of KM's privacy--particularly since by then (Nov 2001), KM had been married for a bit--the whole "don't kiss and tell" thing.

I had heard prior to this that they had been quite close, even to his spending "family" time with her and her boys and that they really liked him.

Was Kate married at the time of this alleged romance? Or was Beltran (has he ever been married?)?

propita, several people who were there (including yourself obviously) did recently say that she didn't cry, and I do believe that. A few people did try to claim that she did, though, and that claim did get spread around briefly not to long ago, though. I was just trying to make the point that while he did indeed say as much, between the varying opinions on how he said it and how his cast mates reacted to it, that comment probably shouldn't be taken to be fact. Especially since he does a deadpan delivery so well that sometimes his jokes are taken as the gospel truth, and no one's been able to agree whether he meant it or not. :)

Ro_Laren, Future's End was filmed in the third season, so...1997/98-ish? And I don't think Kate married Tim until '99, so no she wouldn't have been married at the time. As for Robert, if he's ever been married, he never made it public knowledge.

I thought I was backing up what you said, as you are (I think) backing up what I said:

There were rumors that RB and KM had had a relationship at one time during the show.
RB made a remark on that subject.
Roxann did not cry but did react.
No one else reacted.
With his delivery and the reaction/non-reactions, truth was not determinable.
It's not really our business no matter how much we may care to speculate.
Many do like to speculate.

Including me.

I think it would've been nice--they certainly looked well together and seemed to get along for quite a while. I wonder why it didn't last (too busy? too much of each other all day at work? personality clash for a relationship to actually work? pure lust that burned itself out [my particular favorite]).

I thought I was backing up what you said, as you are (I think) backing up what I said:

Yeah, that was my intention. Sorry, I didn't mean to come across like I was picking apart your response. I wasn't. I was just trying to elaborate on my original response, and your post did indeed back up what I was trying to get across, especially since you were there and I wasn't (alas).

*sigh* My family's right...I do talk too much! :alienblush:

No worries.

My family says that for someone who wouldn't talk until 3yo, I've more than made up for it.

Quoted for truth. Nice avatar, Rina.

So was all this while she was seeing winrich Kolbe?

I thought that was very early in the series and ended early also--perhaps not early enough fpr Mrs. Kolbe, but we don't know (nor should we know) the details.

so are Robert and Kate still friends, they seem to have a bit of a love hate thing going on from what they've said at conventions.
