Spoilers Lord of the Rings TV series

Why do I feel as if I had experienced this story before? A great evil seemed to be rising, only noticed by a handful. Eventually alliances are formed to battle this rising evil. That seemed to be the main plot of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, only it involved destroying an evil ring. It also seemed to be Gandalf's "B" plot for "The Hobbit" trilogy. And now it's an "A" plot again for this series? I don't know. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Just wait, the Eagles will show up soon to save everyone. They always do… (Kidding!)

Cheers,

Something closer to reasonable from a more conservative approach: No, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power isn't woke (msn.com)

I don't wade in to politics because online politics is frustratingly simplified, but I grow tired of "right wing people hate diversity" screed and the battling over the term "woke". So, imagine my surprise when this article pops in to my news feed and I go, yeah, I might not agree with all of it but certainly Rings of Power does nothing that offends any of my current sensibilities, political or otherwise. As the author of the article notes, "there are plenty of cultural hills to die on. This is not one of them."

That's a first, Gaiman suggesting people shouldn't watch Sandman. :)

So far so...okay as far as I'm concerned.

I don't want to sound like an alt-right troll, but I really don't get how this show is treating race in casting though. I'm 100% in favor of more diversity in fantasy, but why couldn't they just have made all of the Harfoot black? Or the entire human village? Just peppering random black actors in every single role (even in isolated communities like the Harfoot, where everyone should have interbred to the same level of brownness) just breaks immersion for me a bit.
I sometimes start thinking of all the peoples that aren't represented by fantasy genetics. Truth is I think everyone notices even if they think it's a good thing.

Sadly it seems to be true and much like Discovery this is sadly another show that won't make it past 1 season

The Joke doesn't work because a different Discovery merged with WB and cancelled about 1000 things, some after they were filmed. So I thought you are basing these on some rumors that Amazon will be switching to that same behavior.

As we are on a Star Trek message board, my mind should have gone straight to Star Trek, but it didn't.
I had the same thought when I saw the reference to Discovery.
Which is ridiculous because Legolas in the Hobbit films was ridiculous and definitely full of Sue traits. I love the fight scene between him and Bolg, but it nonsensical and over the top and gets worse in Battle of the Five Armies. Yeah, Legolas qualifies.
Legolas also shot arrows while surfing down stairs on an Uruk-Hai shield and slid down an olyphant's trunk in the LOTR movies, so him doing ridiculous shit started even before The Hobbit movies.

It did, but the level of absurdity was too much, even for me.

Always liked this one:

How was that even filmed... CG Legolas? Best stunt man ever?

If I remember the special features correctly, it's the real Orlando Bloom spinning round, then a digital double, as the filmmakers called them, grabbing the horse and swinging up onto it. It's also likely there's compositing involved, merging a shot of Orlando with the charging horses. They pulled off some seriously impressive stuff that still hold up pretty well, though I do personally find Super Action Legolas, especially the one-elf oliphaunt takedown, a little much. Felt like those moments belonged in another movie, possibly one directed by Michael Bay.

On another site a few of us pointed out how Legolas those way more Ludacris stuff than taking out that troll (all she has done so far really) and it just gets laughed off as "a bit silly alright".

No Mary Sue for Legolas.

So, Legolas is not a Gary Stu?

I forgot to mention, but I felt like there was a good chance that the giant eagle getting totally murderized front-and-center at the very beginning of the first big battle scene in the backstory montage in the first episode was a reference to this meme. "There, that's why the eagles aren't doing everything by themselves!"

Why would you post that? Who wants something like that in their YouTube algorithms?

I started watching an interesting video regarding the failure of humor in the MCU's recent films. All of the sudden the dude started going on a rant about how Hulk was turned into a joke to make way for She-Hulk, because Marvel just cares about being woke now, and I felt like I just touched algorithm kryptonite.
