Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

It is a little odd that we haven’t heard anything about ships from SNW yet. A new version of the Discoprise, Una’s ship from the pilot, etc…

then again if the line was ending, the license was not being renewed or something like that we would have heard by now.

I can only speak about the "regular-sized" DIS Enterprise that I have, but it seems to match what we've seen of the ship in SNW pretty darn good. I think if they do a version for SNW (which they likely will), it'll mainly be just new packaging and maybe a slightly touched-up paint job, but otherwise the model itself will probably be same, IMO.

The big differences are the windows on the saucer rim are different, adding the ones along the upper ridge and removing the ones in the positions of the TOS ship, and, at least in the last episode, the open cargo-bay door under the fantail to match with the interior view (I'm pretty sure the hatch was closed on the exterior in earlier episodes).

It’s only been 9 weeks since the premiere (and Picard S2 was only two months before that, note that I’m behind on that show so don’t know if there are new ships to be had there or not), I feel like it’s usually a little longer before we get the announcements of new ships.

I've been quite impressed with the quality of the miniatures supplied for the FFG Star Wars games X-Wing and Armada - though the price compared to Eaglemoss accounts for a good chunk of that. I've only gone with a couple of the lower-priced pieces: The VT-49 Decimator (AKA "the evil Millennium Falcon") and the Hunter's Mist (Zuckuss and 4-LOM's fighter, though it's more of a small transport in my mind).

The Eaglemoss webshops are down, the FB customer service pages are gone, and customer support doesn't seem to respond to phone calls either. On Facebook people are starting to speculate that the company has gone into administration...

On Twitter too. I found out about it via the online Doctor Who fandom so it's not just causing waves in Trek circles. I've created a separate thread to discuss the possibility of Eaglemoss having gone under here.

HeroCollector still sends out the occasional emails of new things but yeah, I have definitely noticed a decrease in traffic lately. That would be insanely sad if it was in the process of dying.

To say this sucks if this truly the end would be an understatement.

I just ordered two models from the US store last week, and even though they were shipped fairly quickly, my local mail carrier is dropping the ball in the final leg of delivery. Although I've got a couple of options to pursue, I only have so much time before the post office will send them back to Eaglemoss. If Eaglemoss is truly shutting down, I can't let that happen...

Yeah the USPS adds some extra logistical issues of late. Our carrier is personally pretty good but the office where stuff is sorted for the final leg of the journey tends to be the single point of failure. They've screwed up a bunch of stuff in recent years and just randomly loose shit, never to be seen again. Where does it all go? To make matters worse, I saw on the news last night where the USPS will be raising their prices AGAIN. More cost for less service. Typical mismanaged FedGov agency...

I mentioned in the other thread but I also had something shipped out yesterday, so they're still functioning at some level.

I do wonder if they potentially over-extended themselves with all of the new models from pretty niche fanbases. The Galactica collection was a decade late, and I don't think The Expanse, Orville or Space 1999 exactly have huge numbers of fans interested in buying collectable merchandise.

Conversely a lot of their models for Doctor Who, which does have a large fanbase – at least in the UK – are really sub-par compared to their Star Trek models, and DW fans have been outspoken for years online about models that look like they were cast in plasticine and hand-painted by children.

I suspect most of their problem lies with COVID and the havoc it wreaked on the Chinese supply chain. Bigger companies have been brought low by the same root causes in the past two years. Eaglemoss is a company that relies entirely on its ability to keep supply to match the demand. If the supply disappears, so does the demand and the revenue along with it.

I haven't had any complaints about the Doctor Who line until a few weeks ago. I got a Dalek recently, and the paintwork was a bit sloppy, compared to some of the very similar Daleks I already had.

Did you order any of the TARDIS consoles? Some of them have been dreadful.
