Socrates

“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.”
Stephen Hawking

In all seriousness, that quote needs to be seen more and repeated more and taught in schools more, and simplified and explained more for those who don't seem to understand it.

Winston Churchill:
"History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it."
"We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire. Neither the sudden shock of battle, nor the long-drawn trials of vigilance and exertion will wear us down. Give us the tools and we will finish the job."

I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb bastard die for his country. USS Patton

A couple I have used for fanfic ships:
All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope. - Winston Churchill

Let not the deep swallow me up. - RNLI motto (which I use for the Border Service cutter Silverfin)

When thinking of plaque quotes, my first stop is pretty much always Winston Churchill, he has so many good ones that can fit just about any ship.

Aboard this tiny ship..."
