What Changes Would You Have For "By Any Other Name"

AC84

Captain
Captain
This is a classic episode of Star Trek. One of my absolute favorites. Written by Trek giants Fontana and Bixby. The ending is just a tad underwhelming due to timing, yet still extremely satisfying. It also has one of my favorite Scotty moments. I can't wait to see the Galactic Barrier again courtesy of the folks at CBS Digital.

The only thing I want to see improved is the Andromeda galaxy. The original was perfectly fine, I actually liked that it looked small and far away. I also loved the chilling void of blackness surrounding it (scientifically accurate?). But since the goal is enhancement, they better impress the hell out of us here. I want to see the most breathtakingly beautiful, photorealistic, updated image rendering of Andromeda. Something NASA would aprove of.

Instead of cubes, the Kelvans turn people into action figures. Instead of crushing the cube, they rip the head of the toy and toss it.

Extended Kirk love scene with "Let's Get It On" playing in the background

Have a Kelvan revert to its true form.

They could add glimpses of the Kelvans' true form during Spock's mind probing, but I doubt they'd do it.

I'm with AC84 on Andromeda. I hope they knock our socks off with some high-def beauty shots. But given how far off Andromeda is supposed to be in the story, they'll probably stick with just a tiny hint of it.

I wouldn't mind seeing the CBS Digital team pimp out the Enterprise with external Kelvan modifications for high warp between the galaxies.

That would explain why the warp scale was revised and all Federation starships soon had glowy nacelles. Reverse engineering of the Kelvan modifications!

Superb retcon!! ;)

trekmovie.com has a couple of preview screenshots that look pretty good.

I'd like Kelinda to show a nipple or two.

Joe, but not three

Now its about time we got some new integrated planetscapes. This is one thing that has bugged me the most about TOS:R! These are really breathtaking. By comparison, the original beam in:

The new matte wide shot sets up the whole discussion of the planet. Everyone keeps talking how pretty it is but the original planet set doesn't show it. Now we see it. Good work, CBS Digital.

Got to agree with the glimpse of the true Kelvan form. Just a few frames, almost subliminal.

I imagine the Kelvans looking like the true form of the Galaxy Quest guys!

Looking forward to seeing the inter-galactic shot in motion, but the still looks a bit off. The E looks beautiful in some episodes, and kind of shiny in others. It would have been nice to see a much more dimly lit shot for this, a good excuse to take some real artistic license.

I say THANK YOU to the CBS-D team for a new planetscape, somthing which I would have like to see a lot more of. Vulcan was served nicely with one, Cestus III, it just opens the whole show up when it looks even for a second like it's not just the Planet Hell stage.
