Those are the gimmicks that define part of the Super Sentai universe. Those usually get a pass.

Toei's never had a "Senior Citizen" generally defined as somebody > 65 y/o as part of the core Sentai cast that transforms on a regular basis and goes out into battle every week.

So what? They never had a team that was 80% robots before either. Since when was it bad to try something different?

They've always had costumed characters before, either on the Heroes side or on the Bad guys side.

The only difference is that Zenkaiger gets more civilian costumed characters by default on the core team. That's their gimmick for this year. That's fine.

Nothing wrong with trying different things, but it won't always satisfy every single member of the core fan base.

But that's fine, I don't expect them to always satisfy me every year.

That's just the odds when you come up with new ideas & gimmicks every year.

I'm sure there were certain years of Sentai that you prefer over others along with some years you didn't care for.

You didn't seem to care for Kyuurangers. I really loved that year and loved the entire cast.

That's the thing, not every member of the Sentai / Rider fanbase will enjoy every single years iteration.

That's how we're different.

And some ideas don't really jive with me at this point.

The concept of a Senior Citizen as a core main member doesn't make logical sense.

But that's just me. You seem to be stoked with the idea. More Power to you!

Don Brothers might be that year / iteration that works really well for you.
 
Is someone actually arguing that a child makes more sense as a sentai member then an old man? To be clear, I think that Donbrothers is going to be horrible, but the old man is the only character I'd be honestly interested in seeing. Kid sentai rangers are generally terrible, KingRanger and Kibaranger having terrible reputations (especially Kibaranger), Kyuranger's kid is really the only one I've seen referred to as being decent, so thats only a 33% success rate with kid sentai members. Power Rangers only did it once, and Justin was bad enough that they never did it again.

An old man sentai member could go several directions. He could be really cool (like a martial arts master), fun (a goofy old man), or really bad (several ways this could happen, my most feared being the pervy old man trope). But at the bare minimum I think its the only announcement related to the new show that has potential.

I've seen it now, and that part was rather nice, and some of the returning legend characters were fun to see. Although when Touma felt guilty about making his characters suffer, I would've pointed out that it's more about giving the characters the chance to show how they can prevail over hardship.

I was a bit disappointed we didn't see the Zenkaigers' reaction to Grand Zi-O summoning avatars of past Riders. "Hey, we can do that too!"

Touma writes stories for Children, so he's not quite the author you are.

Ergo delving into more complex topics / relationships / details / intricacies.

His view might be a bit stunted due to his past trauma.

I believe that children deserve the best we're capable of giving them. There are a lot of children's programs -- including Sentai/Rider, often -- that I find smarter and better made than a lot of the stuff aimed at adults.

The point is that I reject the assumption that writing for children requires less skill. Good writing is good writing, regardless of the target audience. After all, one expects parents to read or watch with their children -- or one should -- so writing for children is automatically writing for adults as well. And children are generally smarter and more aware than adults tend to give them credit for.

Heck, in some ways children are smarter about fiction than adults are. So many adult fans these days get so obsessed with canon and continuity and the "reality" of their fiction, and often can't handle it when that reality is mutable or has multiple incarnations, because they've forgotten how to use their imaginations and can only think in terms of rigid reality. But children instinctively understand make-believe and have no trouble seeing something as real and imaginary at the same time. You can see that reflected in tokusatsu, in things like Superhero Senki, which is incredibly metatextual and blurs fiction and reality freely.

Hmm, no surprise that some of the rumors were exaggerated or mistranslated. More of a conventional team composition after all, with the "oldest" member being no more than his 30s, probably, like Nossan in Kyoryuger.

So Kaitou's actor is returning, but as a doppelganger/variant of Kaitou. So it's not quite like Queen Hedorian in Denziman and Sun Vulcan. But it's not a completely different character either, like Battle Kenya's actor returning as DenziBlue.

Do any of the other actors have previous tokusatsu credits? Nobody looks immediately familiar, but I'm not great with faces.

And the compositing of the CGI characters is just as crude as in Zenkaiger. I was hoping they'd improve the texture and lighting to blend them into the scenes better.

Character details

The DonBrothers team consists of:

*Don Momotaro (Momoi Taro) played by Kohei Higuchi is a young man who arrived on Earth in a peach-shaped capsule as a child. He is a competent swordsman who cannot tell a lie.

*Saru Brother (Shinichi Saruhara) played by Yuki Beppu is known as “The Professor” for his analytical mindset. He fights with brute strength and can quickly spot an opponents’ weakness.

*Oni Sister (Kito Haruka) played by Shida Kohaku is the youngest of the team, an aspiring manga artist with a combat style built on tricking enemies.

*Inu Brother (Tsubasa Inuzuka) played by Totaro is a wanted fugitive at the start of the series, hunting down the one who committed the crime he is accused of. Upon transforming he becomes much shorter and faster.

*Kiji Brother (Tsuyoshi Kijino) played by Hirofumi Suzuki is the oldest of the team; as the series begins he lives a normal life compared to the others. He specializes in aerial combat attacks.

And one familiar face remains in the DonBrothers cast: Kita Komagine, currently playing Kaito Goshikida in Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger! Kaito returns in this series as the owner of a coffee shop named DonBro and with a new set of powers- transforming into ZenKaiger Black!

Rounding out the DonBrothers supporting cast is Sohkoh Wada as Jin Momoi– Don Momotaro’s foster parent. Jin found the peach-shaped capsule containing Momoi Taro as a child; after coming into contact with the child Jin stopped aging. As the series begins Jin is in prison but can appear to the others using a holographic projection of himself.

The enemies of the Avataro Sentai DonBrothers are a group known as the Brain Persons! This villain team has three core members:

*Sonoi (played by Yuya Tominaga) is the calm-headed leader who loves painting.
*Sononi (played by Amisa Miyazaki) is a woman obsessed with human affairs.
*Sonoza (played by Shinnosuke Takahashi) is a man fascinated by human emotions since he cannot control his own.

Well now we know how Donbrothers will cut down on CGI for pink and black. The rumor the donbrothers would change into former sentai heroes is true

And more humans/actors! They're going to what Kamen Rider does and use humans as the basis for monsters of the week. Ryusoulger started to do this too

Wow, two anniversary-gimmick seasons in a row, and we aren't even up to 50 seasons yet.

So is KijiBrother going to turn into male versions of past Pink Rangers?
