DC's "Naomi" coming to CW from Ava Duvernay

With Dee talking about having 'fought a war' with Superman and everyone else seeming to think Superman is a fictional character and not actually real. I wonder if the world they're in had Crisis do something to Superman's "existence/knowledge" or perhaps some type of magical spell/curse so we're in a Spider-man type situation?

Also Dee being there for at least 15 years certainly adds to a longer time period. Could this world's Superman be the Brandon Routh Superman? The older Superman who has been through all the comics villains and wars? Maybe Lex's writing himself in place of him as the Paragon of Truth and replacing that Superman in the Crisis storyline somehow altered the world in a way Oliver didn't foresee when that Superman and his world was restored?

I've been assuming that all the super-people/aliens come from a parallel Earth and that it's just like how Superman was fictional on Black Lightning's Earth until the merger. But there do seem to be a lot of aliens showing up, so maybe they aren't all interdimensional, so I don't know.

This isn't a Berlanti Productions show, apparently, so I think it may not ever have any direct link to the Arrowmultiverse. I think they'll keep Superman an unseen figure, and if they do ever bring him in, he might be a new actor.
 
Several things:
1) The general public being unaware of Superman actually existing doesn't mean he's 'extra-dimensional'

2) I don't understand how anyone could have somehow missed that Berlanti Productions has nothing to do with this show and never did

3) We already know that the series' version of Superman isn't Tyler Hoechlin's version, as per Kaci Walfall

Never noticed the lack of it in the end credits... It's on the CW airing directly after Superman & Lois which is part of the Arrowverse. I specifically have avoided a lot of stories on this show because I don't know anything about the character in the comics and figured why spoil myself. It's not like a writer talking about Superman or Batman or Flash or any of that stuff is going to majorly spoil me on stories... but in this case I don't know anything so wanted to go into episodes fresh.

But this specific character. Came into the show with no comic knowledge of them at all. The only thing I've really noticed is in the thread earlier someone post things like "Don't expect any Arrowverse connections in s1" so it just made me think this was like a Stargirl type situation. I'm sure I read previously it was not from Berlanti, but it wasn't something that stuck in my mind I guess.

I've seen a lot of folks, here and (especially) elsewhere, who seem really confused by the "Superman thing," and I'm confused by their confusion. To me, it makes perfect sense by comic-book logic that this is an Earth without native superheroes, where Superman exists only as a fictional character, but that a real Superman appeared from a different Earth via some kind of dimensional breach. I imagine Naomi is also from another Earth, as is Dee and whoever else turns out to be an alien and/or have powers.

Could there be another explanation? Sure, it's early days, and it's being played as a mystery. But the setup is not exactly WTF confusing; it's practically Comics 101.

I think the thing is just how realistic is it in an era with cellphones and videos in the palm of your hand within a second?

I think if Superman was a permanent resident of this world then he must REALLY be selective in when he actually goes into action. He would not be deal with very many crimes and other "saves" anywhere near Superman & Lois level of Superman activity.

Maybe he just responds to alien/offworld threats. Maybe he is like a Buffy version of Superman. She wasn't using her powers to fight loads of random crime.

So the infrequent appearances plus deliberate attempt to establish himself as "fictional" works on this Earth?

With the covid protocol production restrictions oh, I doubt they're going to be wanting to interconnect anything for a while.

As someone who enjoyed the various team ups, that's unfortunate but given the current situation, understandable.

So my hubby won a bet - Dee is from Thanagar. Since he mentioned fighting in a war with Superman and seems to have anxiety, I'm guessing he has PTSD and settled here for the quiet. I seem to recall a war in the comics where Thanagar invaded Earth - perhaps Dee switched sides?

Naomi's dad may not know much, and it looks like his commander doesn't either. My guess is that is there is a Superman wherever this is, he's kept under wraps; if there was just a "visit", that's need-to-know. But there's a task force and now dad is on it, so I see a set up for future conflict.

Spooky guy can do more than be spooky! Nice to see some confirmation he has powers. The alien writing all over the mill wall was fascinating. Did it seem to anyone else that Naomi looked about to start to be able to read it before they were interrupted?

I agree that this Scooby Gang isn't very interesting. I hope that changes soon. I find the lead engaging enough to not mind for now.

What have we figured out so far about Naomi's powers?
  • She apparently doesn't get hurt.
  • Some kind of wind thing.
  • Flight.
  • Super-hearing.
Anything else?

In the comics Thanagar planned to infiltrate Earth (Shadow War), was part of the Dominator led invasion of Earth (Invasion), has a long standing rivalry with Rann that has broken out into all out war a time or two (most obviously in The Rann/Thanagar War), fought off being conquered by Onimar Sinn (JSA), and been involved in the background of several space/cosmic events.
