ViacomCBS is now giving away Star Trek Discovery season 4 for free (with ads) on Pluto TV.

The "flagship" show of Paramount+. For free...

Talk about amateurism, aimlessness, desperation. This was supposed to be the big hook for Paramount+ in Europe in 2022.

So, not for free. Also, running it like it would be broadcast TV.

So, not seeing the problem. Sounds like business. Change, negotiate, adapt, not strict adherence to one model.

"Strange New Worlds" will now be the big hook. No good if everyone has already found DSC Season Four by other means.

Well, if SNW is available same-day in all non-US+Canada markets on P+ when it finally launches, I am not sure there's going to be as much of a problem as our non-US+Canada kin-fans were going to be facing.

Folks were upset that they weren't going to be able to see it, now you're upset that you can?

It wasn't even so much not being able to see it. I'd have been fine with waiting if we hadn't been all geared up for a netflix release last week only to have it snatched away.

I don't get the previous posters complaint about it now being made available on Pluto though.

Yes, free. You don't pay a fee.
Ad-supported TV is considered Free TV.

But that's not them giving it away. It's doing it by way of broadcast TV. Just because there isn't a fee doesn't make it free. Time is a commodity after all.

ETA: To clarify, yes it is free to the consumer, which I am sure is the point that is trying to be made about the failure of CBS, or whatever. My point is that they are still selling the product, but taking a more traditional route. Given the uproar over the Netflix dealing falling through at the last minute the fact that they reworked a deal with Pluto TV to support increasing access demonstrates good business flexibility.

I don't know when CBS slaughtered your family but the negative framing of all their choices is so epic it needs it own movie. No doubt it will cost a lot of money to stream when it comes out ;)

Do we know if Pluto TVs episodes will be on demand?

To be honest I’m tempted to just buy the season on one of the on demand services services which will be available in the uk as no ads and having it on demand would be worth it for me

    Probably worth it…

i just downloaded the app, only to find that Discovery S2 was streamed as the main Feature program.
There is on demand content, including S1.

however, I was unable to find any kind of language setting, and the stream was German dubbed.
Unless I am too stupid to find the language setting for the content, this is an immediate disqualification for me.

Ditto New Zealand. But hey - who gives a fuck, right? Certainly not Paramount.

The Pluto TV service doesn’t strike me as the kind of software that circumvents VPNs..
Not suggesting anything to anybody here, of course. Just a speculation.

So now you're pissed that Paramount isn't making money from Discovery being on a subscription service? Seriously man, pick a lane. I mean, not that I took any of your 'opinions' seriously in the first place, but they are absolutely laughable at this point.

The anger is really at Paramount for owning Star Trek in the first place. No matter what Paramount does they are wrong, they are evil and should be mocked.

I don’t have pluto TV where I’m at. So OK still going to the Orion syndicate.

Screw them for being dumb, I don’t mind supporting them but they pull out from Netflix which I paid and there is no paramount + and Pluto TV from most of the world.
So of course many start trek fans will still go Orion syndicate. Someone needs to get fired for being stupid.
