I read 2383 earlier today. That sounds about right but so far we have no official date for the series other than it happens after VOY, and that can be any time after 2378.

How does he know that?
Captain Foley probably got his date's mixed up. He's getting older, dates gets confused, not really a big deal.

Everything I've read Wikipedia, Memory Alpha, StarTrek.com all say 2383

And that places it ~5 years after Voyager returns to Earth.

For those who wants a simple reference to the major events of the late 24th century.
2378 - USS Voyager Returns to Earth
2379 - Events of "Star Trek: Nemesis" occurs this year (Shinzon Incident)
2380 - Events of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" starts within this year
2383 - Events of "Star Trek: Prodigy" starts within this year
2385 - April 5th, Rogue Synth Attack on Mars destroying Utopia Planetia, mass evacuation plan of the Romulan Refugees gets canceled after Utopia Planetia is destroyed and most of the vessels there are destroyed as well.
2387 - Romulus gets destroyed by a Super Nova, Spock fails to destroy it with a Artificial Black Hole created by Red Matter. This leads to the creation of the Kelvin Time-line.
2399 - Events of "Star Trek: Picard" starts within this year

The episode was fine. I think I need to give it a rewatch to fully judge it but for a kids show it didn't feel too much like a kids show. It's definitely something I'd watch every week. Maybe because I'm immature? I think now that we've gotten the pilot out of the way the following episodes should hopefully prove more interesting. What impressed me most was how well animated the show was. Definitely not done on the cheap. I also think it's nice that we finally have a Star Trek show in this era that kids can watch.

I'm annoyed with myself for reflexively deleting this after I watched it rather than saving it on the DVR for my 7 year old niece. She got annoyed with me once for watching Star Trek on Netflix and ever since I tease her by calling it her favourite show and she says she hates it. With how long this takes to get Star Trekky I could've tricked her into enjoying an episode of Star Trek if I managed to distract her during the title card.

I'm interested to see where this series goes, but for right now I wanna know why the Protostar was abandoned by its crew.

I'm more curious as to how a Tellerite, Medusan, Brikkar, Lurian and Caitian ended up slaves in the Delta Quadrant (with apparently no knowledge of the Federation).

I thought it was good.

Not the greatest Star Trek experience I've had, but it was decent. I have tons of questions. Mainly where exactly in the Delta Quadrant is this at and why are there so many Alpha/Beta species present? I'll keep watching for sure.

The appearance of the Kazon implies we're very deep in the Delta Quadrant (Voyager left their space behind after 2 or 3 seasons), which makes the Alpha Quadrant species presence all the more of a mystery.

This is the third episode (after Living Witness and The Young Hunter) to not feature a single human character. Just a holographic human.

"The Young Hunter"?

(Medusans are telepathic [Were they?]

Well, the only one we'd seen on screen had a telepathic assistant for ease of communication. I don't think the Medusan was said to be telepathic, but it's not a stretch.

That Zero was telepathic caught me off-guard as well. I recently re-watched Is There in Truth no Beauty specifically for the purposes of preparing for Prodigy, and I really don't recall any mention of it there. It was Miranda Jones who was the telepath. If Kollos was telepathic, why did they need Doctor Jones?

Courtesy? Non-telepaths might be a little freaked out with the frequent telepathic dialogue.

If Medusans wanted to win a battle or a fight, all they needed to do is expose themselves to the adversaries. No one could even aim at them with a weapon without becoming mad. It's hard to hit a target if you don't look at it.

I wonder what they did during the Dominion War...

They say 2383 in all the usual BTS places, but, honestly, if it wasn't for the reported Captain Chakotay and Outrageous Okona appearances, everything in this episode screamed out for a setting in a couple hundred years past 2378.

But is that what the shows producers were putting out or someone just making a guess? One of the things also crossed my mind is they might want this show set during Discovery's time in the future. That and it made also think of the Stargate cartoon back in the day that was also set in the future.

Those characters could show up when they discover the holodeck assuming the show has a holodeck. Or flashback. I even wonder if we will see any humans on the show that aren't holograms or a already created character.

So they went from the GEN/VOY badge to the LDS badge, then the PRO badge (though LDS and PRO could be the same), then back to the VOY badge...

If the production remains solid I am good with it, it's got a lot of appeal on the audiovisual level. Not really sure what the regular episodes will be like, I hope there's some TOS type adventures and it's not all rebels vs big bad. I'd like to see some of what those credits images evoke.

It was good but I have a feeling I may be too old for this show lol. I thought it was going to be for everybody (like a Pixar movie) but it really seems targeted towards children.

I imagine it will be similar to the TMNT CGI show they did and that was enjoyable. Even for a adult.

Aren’t Lurians supposed to have hair? Morn was the exception because of consuming Latinum
That sort of went out of the window with the Lurian from the 32nd century in DSC.
Drinking so much has made him capable of time travel and being in multiple locations at the same time.
There's also the possibility that Morn was an outlier, one of the few Lurians with hair, and then lost it after the fact and making him look like an average Lurian. I feel like this kind of silly explanation would be fitting for Morn, who was the source of so many silly jokes.

You've all got it wrong! Morn was clearly the ultimate Lurian trendsetter. No one has ever had more followers on Luria's social networks. Generations after him have all been shaving their heads (or giving themselves low-grade latinum poisoning) to capture his iconic look.

I like their ship, after a long dry spell of not caring for the ship designs in trek for many years.

the animation is quite good. They get quite nuanced expressions on the lead character (the purple kid, forget his name).

LOOK AT THE LEVEL OF DETAIL ON ALL THESE ASSETS!
JESUS! ITS BEAUTIFUL!
