You could even do a version with all women as the leads. I wonder if the fanbase would accept that?

Exactly. But my fear is that they'll try to turn it into another MCU, but I don't feel the Ghostbusters is that kind of franchise. It's a concept that stands better on its own. That's what I've been trying to get at. But as we've seen, they've been leaning heavily on nostalgia, and it's not wrong to a point, but they've also got to expand beyond what's already been done in the other movies, as someone else pointed out earlier. If all they're going to do is rehash movie after movie, then I'm afraid I don't see the point. There are only so many ways you can cook a Stay Puft ;)

Even the game, which was actually quite good and considered an official continuation for a time due to the fact they had brought back all the original actors for their parts, did do a lot of retreading via the hotel and Stay Puft scenes. I'd rather they avoid doing much of that if we get more movies.

If it's actually GOOD, and not poorly written, unfunny drivel padded out with painfully desperate ad-libbing, then sure! Why not!?
Of all the things I expend energy worrying about, whether or not a movie studio will squander or mis-use a franchise about wise-cracking phantom exterminators is fairly low on the list.
Like I said, either they'll fuck it up, or they won't. Bad movies I can (and do) ignore. Good movies that never got made through fear of oversaturation...well that's kind of a non-starter or a proposition, isn't it?
The game was a game. By which I mean the medium has a different set of demands than a movie, or a TV show. So yeah, it's major selling point was "you get to be a Ghostbuster", so of course they went back and re-did all the greatest hits precisely so gamers can relive that experience first hand (and third person.)

That said, from a purely narrative and storytelling stand point the reason for revisiting those locations and set pieces was fairly well thought out, and did a lot to expand and try to add further context to what the first two movies had established. That the rivers of slime and the "Spook Central" apartment building were both just components of a much larger mechanism Shandor put in place all over the city.
The only place where it dropped the ball a little (the supposed Dana/Shador connection) was not even their fault since Sigourney Weaver declined to be involved.

Yep, for a game it was a good decision, because for good reason, you'd want people to relive those experiences and I do agree they were well thought-out. Just don't want to see that kind of thing being done again in a movie.

The thing to keep in mind is that this is relaunching the series, and they like to go bring back stuff from ealier when the restart, but hopefully if we get more new movies or shows or whatever, they'll go off in more of their own direction.

That's a good point. Hadn't occurred to me that way. In that sense, it would make sense given it's technically a trilogy with a continuity to go with.

The RPG added some cool stuff too. There are tons of good ways to expand the world in movies.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I liked the women-led movie. It definitely had it's flaws, but on 2nd viewing (on tv) I liked it even more. It's not quotable like the original, which had a lot to do with Murray's performance IMO, but it has it's charms. An edit that tightened up the pacing would do wonders for it. But I'm good with it being part of the GB world.

IMO, the only thing the 2016 movie had going for it was some of the cast; Specifically Kate McKinnon & Leslie Jones. Indeed I would 100% be happy to see Holtzmann & Patty show up in the mainline continuity (for want of a better term) alongside the surviving original cast. Both great performances of well realised, memorable characters.

I'm afraid all a re-edit can do is somewhat mitigate the pacing issues, excise some of the more painful original cast cameos and cut short some of the adlibs and running jokes that either went on too long or just flat out didn't work.
It can't fix the awful writing, flaccid antagonist, uninspired direction, the visual effects that looked designed more for a Disney theme park ride than a movie, how aggressively unlikable half of the main cast are, or just how insultingly dumb and unfunny Hemsworth's character is.

Not about you specifically, but I wonder if that's a gender thing. I and my female friends thought he was hysterically funny - not just because we found Hemsworth funny (which he is) but also in flipping the stereotype. I've seen far more than enough Hot Dumb (usually) Blonde women in my life, thanks.

I thought the reboot was an okay movie. Stupid and funny, much like the original in some ways. But still not quite as good overall, IMO. I would consider neither version “high-concept cinema”.

I didn't find the reboot entertaining at all, but going to comic cons it is hugely popular among young women and the young LGBTQ community so I'm glad they got their Ghostbusters.

The comedy/horror balance is hard to get right. The Original Ghostbusters nailed it, and that was one of the reasons it was such a hit. They shifted the balance to lighter in GBII because of the cartoon, and it didn't work as well.
GB2016 went way too hard towards the comedy, regardless if the actual jokes actually land or not.

Maybe. I mean I know they were gender-flipping the "dumb blonde secretary" trope, but personally; I like to think that I'd be equally annoyed if they'd given those same lines to a woman. Let's be real here, there's "dumb", and then there's "so mentally incompetent they should be institutionalised for their own safety." Hemsworth was playing the latter. It just felt lazy and mean spirited...which honestly sums up a lot of the comedy in this movie.

Also; where does that even come from? Janine was never portrayed dumb. Quite the opposite. She took exactly zero bullshit.
I don't undervalue the fact that they got a Ghostbusters movie they could identify with, I just wish they could have had a GOOD Ghostbusters movie to identify with.

I'm already at the point where I kinda just wanna wait and see the movie, not more trailer footage.
So as an alternative, here's a video of Adam Savage getting to poke around the prop trailer on location and play with the new versions of the old equipment. ;)

Normally, I agree but I couldn't help myself and watched the new trailer anyways. I can't wait!

I love Adam's videos. He's such a wonderful nerd. I'll watch that one when I get home.

Yeah, I'm purposefully not watching any trailers at this point. I've tried my best to shield myself from most of the details, and these days trailers like to show a bit too much. But I like the glimpses I've seen.

Fair enough. They really do. This one's actually pretty restrained, by third trailer standards, though.

I am not watching the new or anymore trailers, they had my money at the first teaser.
