anyone still have and prefer the Director's/Collectors Edition DVDs of the movies?

Memories are a funny thing but that doesn't change the fact that there are only three versions of the movie The theatrical the TV cut and the director's Edition. The director's Edition on DVD has two extra lines as has been pointed out earlier that were eliminated from the Blu-ray of the director's cut although the added footage remains. So if you don't see a scene or dialogue in one of those three versions then it's your imagination.
The only other scenes from Wrath of Khan that have been seen by the General Public are the show West trailer that was created in 1982 for theater owners. Which is available on YouTube to watch. That's it. And the only thing that's in the TV cut that's not in the director's cuts is the alternating shots in the turbolift as people have already pointed out. Just an alternate takes of the same exact scene

the newer DVDs in the slimmer DVD cases for the old Trek movies especially The Motion Picture it is nice to have them for backup in case you have a hard time getting the old 2002-2003 Collectors Editions.
But the newer bonus features are crap especially for the first Star Trek movie such as these bonus features
-The Longest Trek
-Special Reunion - its a dumb cast extras "reunion" of those on camera actor exras that show their face when theyre being shown the Klingon ships being attacked by Vger.
-Starfleet Academy - a dumb cheesy Star Trek in character educational video about old Earth Voyager space probes

It is reported both ways in several web pages, depending on the author of the piece. Can't see the scene in any online versions of the script.

Correct. The scenes in the Jefferies tube were both added at the last minute when Meyer wanted to show some movement as to how they get from the lower decks to the bridge and vice-versa without the turbo lifts working. Originally they cut out the one with them climbing up toward the bridge because the dialog indicated that Kirk was telling Spock something that he had just found out -- the fact that David was his son. But when the scene where Kirk finds out that David is his son was reshot and changed to indicate that Kirk knew all along -- it seems odd that Spock would not have known of David. So the scene was cut. Later when Meyer was assembling the TV cut for ABC he added the scene back in without realizing that the dialogue was confusing. That's why he removed the dialogue in the Blu-ray version of the director's cut. But he did like the movement of the actors climbing up and then Spock later climbing down to engineering so he left in the footage without the dialog.
It's only "dumb" if you are disinterested in Trek fans of 1978 getting to appear in TMP. I had followed their story in "Starlog", "Enterprise Incidents" and Bjo Trimble's "On the Good Ship Enterprise", so I thought it was a great inclusion!
I didn’t get big into Star Trek until after Blu-Rays were a thing. Before that, the only copies of the film I owned were the VHS’ - I wish I had paid more attention a little bit earlier as I feel like I missed out on a lot of great releases and content as a result! Now I keep my prying eyes on ebay for good deals :P

The 2-disc DVDs are still the only versions of the original films I own, with the exception of the TWOK Director's Cut Blu-ray released a few years ago.
There never seemed much point picking up the other Blu-rays as they didn't appear to be great transfers, and were missing loads of things - obviously the directors' cuts of TMP, TWOK and TUC, but also the European prologue for TVH which was included on the UK DVD. I wish the Blu-ray would include that, along with the alternate title card.

I just hope the DE of TMP is released on regular Blu-Ray. Everything I read references the 4k but no mention of a traditional Blu-Ray.
Honestly I'm not a huge fan of 4K. Sometimes something can be too perfect. It just seems 4K makes everything look like a daytime soap opera to me.

You need to have your TV adjusted or better equipment because 4K Done Right looks exactly like film that you would see on a movie screen. If it looks smoothed over like a soap opera then either the settings are off on the equipment or they have done an improper job remastering the movie.
The DE team is working (as I type) on the new version of the DE. They are under the impression that there will be a Blu-Ray option in addition to a 4K.
Yes, I was going to say check your TV settings. A lot of TVs have motion smoothing turned on by default. This generally has the effect of making film look like higher frame rate video by essentially interpolating new frames. This is why it looks like a soap opera, which are usually 50 or 60hz video.
Basically, turn off any image processing on your TV, including any noise reduction or edge enhancement. And you might have to do the same on your player. Films are painstakingly remastered and presented in amazing 4K on disc, but then your TV ruins it all by turning it to crap.
Hmm, ok. Usually when I see 4K it's demos at stores, and I've seen them showing movies that ended up looking like it was filmed by a soap opera crew. So maybe it's just some demo setting I'm seeing.
Still, honestly I've always been very happy with Blu-Ray quality. I haven't felt a pressing need to go higher than that. If I can get a Blu-Ray of the DE I'd probably be happy with that.
I hope so. Typically you see a Blu-Ray option on anything that comes out on 4K, probably because while 4K is growing, Blu-Ray and DVD seem to be the go to option for most of the general public. Hell, it's possibly they may re-release an updated DVD version of the DE.
4k sucks. Few have successfully argued to me why a little more resolution is so much better. Ridiculous.
For me the benefit isn't so much 4K as it is HDR. My TV isn't huge so the difference in resolution is negligible, but HDR can look stunning. If it had been part of the original Blu-ray spec I would have seen no need to upgrade.
In my experience most stores don't have a clue either and leave all the default image processing on. It's always worth googling the best settings for your TV - there will usually be someone with advice on Reddit etc.
