Spoilers There will never be Ferengi in DISCO

I really prefer that the Ferengi haven't appeared in DSC.

Despite the time-jump, DSC still favors TOS as the primary series it ties back to.
Never thought of this in regards to the aliens we will see but makes sense.

There are going to be exceptions obviously

Cool. My point is that the Ferengi aren't hiding in plain sight and are now called Orions.

I always wonder if when people act like this there's some level of autism or just being awkward for the sake of it. Taking a dump on an intelligent post just... because you can.

OP, yes a very good analysis. That effectively was what the Ferengi were meant to be. Wheeling, dealing, dangerous... it just never happened. It is hard to see Ferengi would have much of a place, other than another similar faction.

Given Discovery's direction, it'll have flipped around and women will be running Ferenginar.

Orions --> Introduced in "The Cage", produced in 1964, seen again in "Whom Gods Destroy" and in a TAS episode.
Ferengi --> Introduced in 1987 through mention in "Encounter at Farpoint" and appearance in "The Last Outpost".

This speaks for itself. The '60s (shock! shock!) came before the '80s.

But, if that doesn't do it, don't blame DSC. DS9 had The Orion Syndicate. Probably a forerunner of The Emerald Chain.

If Andorians were using bathleths and drinking blood wine and speaking in Klingon then we could say that they replaced Klingons

I'm sorry, your argument simply makes no sense. Different cultures can have similar traits. Besides, the Orions were actually created before the Ferengi. So it is the Ferengi copying traits of another Trek species.

true. which was why this season we saw Trill, Bajorans, Cardassians and whatever Morn is. Because TOS
Primary. I said primary! Wording matters. ;)

DSC refers to ENT and DS9 secondarily. Then TNG and VOY. That seems to be packing order with DSC. Most TNG/VOY stuff goes to PIC.

I think he was speaking metaphorically and from the perspective of the writers -- not an actual in-universe thing.

Star Trek has often dealt in contemporary (to us) social archetypes through the different species they include. The DSC writers wanted an archetype of a slithery, conniving, treacherous, dangerous, back-stabbing-for-gain race. That was already what the TNG writers had in mind for the Ferngi, but the Ferengi were later diluted by subsequent writers to be more buffoonish.

So since what the Ferengi were no longer what they were supposed to be (and the DSC writers wanted a species more like what the Ferengi were supposed to be), they instead had the 33rd-century Orions become that race.

Dude, by your logic then the Orions would have never reappeared after the Ferengi were introduced in TNG. Or the Romulans would never have returned after the Cardiassians were introduced.

Which episodes (other than DISCO) were the Orions in after the Ferengi were introduced?

Physical appearance or referenced? Because Quark discusses making a side trip to Orion in "Little Green Men."
