Was anyone else going "what exactly does she plan to do to Starfleet headquarters?" when they mentioned going there?

It's a giant starbase, made of Neutronium, surrounded by a fleet of starships and she only has a single ship.

That's just it; we have no idea what her endgame is and that's frustrating. Are we going to find out? I hope so, but, I'm not a fan of finding this out later. This should be firmly-established up front.

The Seska of Discovery?

The Eddington of DS9?

A 7.

Parts were interesting to be sure (and that's why a 7) but please going back to the:

- Malfunctioning Holodeck trope.

PLUS

- The enemy EASILY takes over a Federation starship in the blink of an eye...no resistance whatsoever trope.

The Discovery was on red alert but somehow NO ARMED SECTURITUY ANYWHERE ON THE SHIP?

Lets leave 90s Trek tropes in the dumpster. I hadn't seen a ship takeover like that since TNG's "Rascals" (and that episode was utter crap all around).

It's also getting a bit ridiculous that the Villains can show up as nearly instantaneously as the Discovery jumps (IE within 4 hours). I mean hell if ships can still travel that fast, WHY did the Federation fall apart so fast?

Also, you're telling me that 32nd century tech couldn't determine this Nebula as the source of the burn until now? (IE - 125 years later.) Star Fleet scientists must have dropped in IQ over the last 900 years.

Also, come on - we know know what 'event' caused the Burn -- It was the exact moment of Su' Kal's mother's death and his emotional reaction to it -- Western Union couldn't have made the telegraphed plot point faster.

Probably the latter. It's something an editor has to do when they didn't get enough coverage on the day of the shoot, can't do reshoots, etc. Discovery isn't the first Star Trek series to do this and it won't be the last. :)

I gave it a 7 for the same reasons. Started out interesting, but too much idiot plot at the end, when the Emerald Chain shows up.

My guess is that Burnham saves the day, and replaces Saru as CO of Discovery.

Osyraa plans to use the ship for leverage.

I don't believe it was his mother dying. She would have been dead by the time he would have caused the Burn. The ship crashed in 3064 and the Burn happened in 3069.

I think my biggest frustration stems from the idea that the technology takes such a huge point of prominence in a story that is largely about characters working together. The technology is a backdrop. Is it really straining this story so much that it is the talking point rather than what the characters are doing?
If characters working together is your thing then Discovery isnt the show for you

Im 15 mins in and Burnham has already been screaming at Saru on the bridge then worst of all questioning his ability to be objective despite being the least objective person in Trek history and then questioning if he knows the weight of captaincy despite never being one. Ive had to take a break now cause Starfleets worst ever XO is giving Tilly pointers on the job.

Fair play to Vance with his WTF look when Saru said " first officer ensign"
Ah yes ... that really rubbed me the wrong way when she expressed her 'concerns' about Saru to Book. It's rather hurtful to do that to an alleged friend and fairly inappropriate given he is her commanding officer.

I want GRUDGE to save the day (just by being cute, cuddly and totally disarming). ;)

That poor frikkin' cat! Exposed to ionizing radiation because Book took her to Dilithiumworld. Throw that bastard in the brig and revoke his privileges, and fine his neglectful ass! Worst. Cat custodian. Ever!

People are hating on the origin of the Burn, but I am a bit more sanguine on it. As I said before, I always felt like there was no way to end this except with a damp squib, which is exactly what happened
If you just think of it as the burn being caused by the descendants of Badgey it makes complete sense

Well, Discovery has never made me fear as much for their lives as it did at the end of this one. Good job.
I agree I really thought someone was getting shot. Had vibes of the baseball bat guy from Walking Dead

It was supremely weird to see Doug Jones as himself
Best part of the episode. He really made it look like someone playing a human for the first time

Yeah, Tyler's transformation was basically a sign of willingness to take on pain and sacrifice in the name of the Empire. Given the more ritualized ways of T'Kumva's followers it strikes me as eminently reasonable that they used the most painful process possible, with little regard for how the memories would impact Voq's behavior.

Such a fascinating character.
Im starting to think you are actually just a troll. If Riker walked out of the shower and it was all a dream you would be telling everyone how inspired it was and how amazing a piece of writing

Linus will save the day by reversing the polarity of the badges of Osyrra's people, and beaming them all into space.
Thats actually a brilliant idea. I read it in Scotty voice for some reason or maybe Torres but its a pure Trek chief engineer move either way

And she was utterly crap every time she was ever near command so who is she to talk.

Also since when are you acting captain every time the captain leaves the ship

Just what we needed from discovery: a holodeck malfunction episode!

Osyira can not only track discovery, but also reach her after a very short time, somehow...And of course now she’s super interested in capturing her while a few episodes ago she couldn’t care less.

Now the spore drive can teleport other ships to...too bad they didn’t know it in season 1, sounds like a useful thing to do in a war!

I’m not sure how they managed to make boring an episode that has thr ship boarded, but I almost fell asleep...Might be the a-plot being so obvious, messy and uninspired.

6 because I feel generous.

They insulted her. As far as villain motivations go it was a bit tropey but workable.

Yeah, instead of wasting time insulting her, they should have black-alerted out of there a great distance. She only stayed because Discovery stayed otherwise she would probably have left. Disco could always come back later to pick up its crewmembers. When you have a spored drive, distance means nothing.

Since its a scifi show, both the characters working together AND technology matter equally and should fit TOGETHER.
There's no point in making a show set in the far future if the story doesn't MAKE USE of that setting in a convincing manner.
