Is it just me or does the make-up of the Andorians and Orions look rather cheap/off?

What's the deal with Cleveland Booker? He seems to be an alien, but his name is clearly Anglo-American.

I enjoyed that. Some really good character moments. Middle of the road for the season.

It appears my new theory is also shared by some others in here!

I’m starting to be convinced that the distress signal is the Discovery we saw in Calypso. Long shot, though.

Notes and such:
- What's happening on an atomic level? Probably nothing too interesting, Culber. Maybe stick to molecular level, or better yet, cellular level, for your diagnoses.
- The redemption of Georgiou continues. She didn't kill her mother, she's just a pathological liar to rival Jon Lovitz.
- Oded Fehr does the good, old cliche "Tough Sergeant who caves to the rogue detective anyway" role. The best course of action would be to not send your most necessary ship to meet with the leader of your rival organization as an "observer". Jump in, drop off Book, and jump the hell out.
- Establishing "Aunt Osyraa" as Evil scene. Yep, she kills her nephew. More evil than Georgiou who never killed her mother.
- Okay, so XO = Captain's Assistant. And did they steal Lower Decks joke, or the other way around? It's hard-to-tell with the turnaround on these shows.
- Someone is sending audio signals from outer space? Those damned Verubins breaking all known physical laws...
- "Be careful, Commander" = "You're on thin ice, sister."
- How to write for Georgiou: Every line she says is an insult.
- Osyraa wants Ryn. The Discovery has Ryn. Sounds like the making of a conflict.
- Yellow Alert seems prudent. I'm surprised they didn't have it on as a matter of course.
- "We are your family." "Act like it." *raises fist in anger, then mutters*. Yeah, that sounds like family to me.
- Astute observation, Lieutenant Nilsson. XO-worthy, even.
- I don't think the Emerald Chain will care if a "rogue pilot" is the cause for the war they're apparently starting. Should just fire on the ship directly, since no one (not the Chain, not Vance) will believe your "Detmer has gone rogue" theory.
- Book, your brother's child was just threatened. He has pretty good incentive to kill you.
- I know how you defeat Osyraa: You throw some water on her!
- All's well that ends well. Next week: Tune in when they return to Federation HQ and Saru is most likely discharged for starting a war and loses command of his ship while Detmer is imprisoned for treason.

O_o a TNG uniform. That peaked my interest.
It was okay. Felt like filler. Spent the majority watching it wanting to know more about the source and space Hitler than the main story.
So the implication currently is that a distress signal caused the burn? I wonder what ship it could be?

It's the Discovery. But not the USS Discovery, the *ISS* Discovery. #CaptainKillyLives

On the one hand the Andorians sound "normal" like they did in previous series now that that ridiculous auto-tuning is gone from the actors' voices. On the other the prosthetics are either too weird-looking or glossy so there is a "Halloween mask" kind of feel to some of these.

Discovery/Zora should just be her own Captain at this point. It seems like a poison chalice.

I don't know if it was intentional from the writers, but it's interesting that Osyraa named her flagship, Viridian, with a name that's a homonym of the system where James Kirk was killed.

Assuming Picard said anything... It looks like he was afraid Kirk would steal the spotlights...

Looks like the big reveal will be, that the Prime universe is actually a simulation done in the Mirror Universe. Giorgio is the key...

mehf, meh!

Georgiou is a hologram? a duplicate? a MU version of the red angel? or as one posited in the upper threads, reacting to some kind of 32nd century proximity to the Mirror Universe? the questions indeed.

...and what species in 2363 Starfleet spandex gold is being holo projected in Dr. Culber's lab? (end trailer)
