Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Season 3 opening credits

Things I noticed:
  1. Red dilithium?
  2. I never realized that the woman's shoulders to upper lip was supposed to be Burnham, but the hair kinda confirms that
  3. DOTs!
  4. The Enterprise command chair is still in
  5. Not sure I like the new "phaser"
  6. Is the next device supposed to be another weapon?
  7. Our best look yet at the new Starfleet badge
  8. New font for "Discovery" but "Star Trek" remains the same

I take that to be symbolic for a 23rd Century crew (Discovery) taking command of the situation they find themselves in.

New font for "Discovery" but "Star Trek" remains the same
Yup. Same thing with Picard. So I take it the Star Trek part of the logo is just the general font they're using for the brand name. Lower Decks is the only exception in that uses the TOS font for Star Trek and the TNG font for its own subtitle because it's purposely trying to feel more like Old Trek. That's my take on it.

There's a schematic representation of a wormhole to see at the end of the credits. Maybe the bajoran one? ;)

No, it's Cleveland Booker's ship, I believe.

EDIT: And yeah, the left side is the front of the ship.

And of course... love the opening.
There seem to be several fronts XD

The first two episodes are not bad, but I hope it gets better.

Just to show how much 930 years changes things in real life, using an Old English Translator.

Modern English

Good thing that Book and Burnham have translators or they never can be able to understand each other. Time made a huge difference in language in the world.

Do you think they really are permanently trapped in this century?

Even if all time travel was destroyed there’s a million ways they could learn about the Prophets and beg them to send them back. Or there’s still a time suit out there somewhere.

If it weren't for "Calypso" I might've said yes. But because of "Calypso", I think there's still some time-travel to be had. Once you establish a rule in fiction like "time-travel has been outlawed", it's just asking to broken in-story at some point.

This is the part where someone will say "Calypso" is a self-contained story. To that I'll say nothing related to Discovery (or Picard) is self-contained. That's not the way DSC works.

Oh, and Biden got higher ratings than Trump. I just re-watched Discovery instead, though.

Who wants to lay on odds that the Klingon race has become extinct In this time frame? If they really want to shake things up this year I can think of nothing more devastating than this.

My thoughts on the show now and for those that don't like the show as presented don't watch :)

I view Disco as a valid continuation of Star Trek unbound by the restraints of what came before it. Now they can tell more stories with fewer restrictions and frankly I'm glad they can do this now, and their hands are untied. I am excited to see where they go from here.

In regards to the timesuit there is no valid reason they can't build another one and calibrate it for a new user, spore jump to Boreth if it's still around and nick a crystal.

One thing I'm struck by is how a number of major publications haven't either bothered reviewing Discovery 3. It speaks to how insular and niche CBSAA Trek has become. And how little chatter about his show there is on social media/internet- even though the movie world has ground to a halt- which would seem to benefit streaming. In terms of impact on the culture at large, Discovery seems to be no more popular than the floundering Enterprise series with the beagle.
