Spoilers What are your unpopular Sci-Fi & Fantasy Opinions?

When I say unpopular here I mean something that you liked or thought was great but everyone else hated.
So for example saying you like 'The Last Jedi' is not really an unpopular opinion as lots of people are split on that.

I thought "Save Martha" was a great line that tied Superman and Batman together, brought the whole plot to a perfect turning point and I actually hadn't made the connection that they both had a mother with the same name because it's Ma and Pa Kent in my head. That's not to say I thought the movie was great.

I thought 'The Thing' prequel in 2011 was a perfect prequel to the 1982 movie. Maybe the most well done prequel ever.

I thought Ben Affleck was a pretty good Daredevil in the directors cut of Daredevil the movie.

The Star Wars prequels are as good as the sequels

Wonder Woman is the worst DCEU film

Temple of Doom is better than Last Crusade

The ending of nuBSG is fine

Val Kilmer was a perfectly serviceable Batman

* The Matrix Trilogy is one of the greatest Superhero Movie trilogies of all time, and Reloaded and Revolutions are worthy follow-ups to The Matrix

* Star Trek Voyager's treatment of the Borg was just fine and made perfect sense given that the series was set in their home quadrant (the species actually ought to have had a bigger presence than they did, if we're being perfectly honest)

* The Telepath War storyline from Babylon 5's fifth season is just as engaging as the rest of that series' ongoing arcs

* Batman Forever forms a perfect Trilogy with Batman '89 and Batman Returns (Two-Face whitewashed recasting notwithstanding)

* The Hobbit Trilogy is qualitatively on par with the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

If The Crystal Skull was made a few years after The Last Crusade people would have enjoyed it as much as the other Indiana Jones movies. The long wait created an image of what Indiana Jones SHOULD be according to overhyped fanatics no movie could live up to.

All of the Matrix, and Pirates of the Carribean movies are good.
Insurrection is one of the best Star Trek movies.

Agreed.

More unpopular opinions:
* In order of best to worst, the Indiana Jones franchise stacks up as follows: Temple of Doom, Crystal Skull, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Last Crusade

* There was nothing wrong, demeaning, or otherwise problematic about the resolution to Donna Noble's story on Doctor Who

* The Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown are one of the best Doctor/Companion pairings in the 50-year-plus history of Doctor Who

* Origins: Wolverine, The Last Stand, and Apocalypse are just as good as any of the other films in the X-Men Cinematic Universe

I agree about Christopher Nolan being overrated. While Dunkirk was a good experience, I thought it was a terrible movie and I have no reason to ever revisit it.

Solo was (At the time, now it's Mandalorian) the best thing to come out of Star Wars since Revenge of the Sith (I haven't seen the animated TV shows)

The LOTR trilogy is overrated and the only reason ROTK did as well as it did at the oscars was because the Oscars were looking at all three films.

I wish there were more Sci Fi movies like Arnold's total recall, Arrival, Intersteller, or The Martian. Now it's all franchises or Super Heroes. Heck, just a few weeks ago I saw The Fifth Element for the first time and it was a weird movie but it reminded me how vast and imaginative Sci Fi can actually get.

Star Wars is not a good movie.

You won't believe how often I;ve said this. It's a cult classic. But in terms of writing, directing, acting, editing, pacing...... It's simply not good. Entertaining as hell and a huge part of my childhood and still part of my life. But not good.

Star Wars is overrated for the hype it has received. It is a perfectly serviceable film. The franchise is overwrought with mission creep.

Here's my biggest one: "Chronicles of Riddick" is an excellent science fiction film and doesn't deserve the panning it gets by so many.

I liked that one in the theaters. Haven't seen it since, but it was definitely fun.

Mine:
  • Star Trek went off the rails with Star Trek: Voyager and only with Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks has it found its way again.
  • While it could have been better with a more unified story and vision, the Star Wars sequel trilogy was more good than bad.
  • Game of Thrones was overhyped.
  • G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was a fun movie.
  • In Doctor Who, the best Doctor is not necessarily your favorite.
  • Tron: Legacy is an underappreciated movie.
  • Star Trek: Nemesis was the best movie featuring the Next Generation cast.

Can we get this thread back on track and back to following the OP's rules for what constitutes an 'unpopular opinion'?

I missed that little rule.

I guess I would say Star Trek: Generations actually felt like a movie featuring the Next Generation Cast and not an action film. Also, the music in Generations is really underrated.

The Dark Knight was an overly long, over bleak, humorless film that was a slog to get through.

The Wrath of Khan has aged poorly and The Motion Picture is my favorite original cast film.

Babylon 5 was an ambitious project that was mediocre, at best, in its execution.

While I enjoyed Firefly and it might have had potential, it deserved to be cancelled.

Timothy Dalton was the best Bond.

Istar was a fun and enjoyable movie.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I feel so much better now.

While I have become a Firefly fan over the years at the time it was airing I have to agree. It simply wasn't very memorable the couple of times I did catch it.
