Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

Sophie is boring is my main guess. Now having Alice takeover would be interesting. She is the best character on the show by a wide margin.

Jason

Alice would make no sense at all. Luke is the caretaker of the Bat-mantle, and do you think he would see any reason to compromise the security of...everyone living to allow a known mass murderer / nutjob into that world / his life?

Agreed, Alice wouldn't make any sense at all. But CrisisRemnant!Beth would have made perfect sense, as she'd made/had connections with nearly everyone that Kate did, and Rachel Skarsten could have played her while Alice was in Arkham (with presumably limited scenes). Too bad the writers insisted on killing her off almost immediately.

As others have mentioned, putting Sophie in the Batsuit would have given the show a Black Batwoman who was already connected to nearly everyone Kate was connected to: Jacob is her father figure, Alice tried to kill her in order to get at Jacob, she and Mary interacted a number of times in several ways. She's even in a relationship with Kate's other ex, Julia, apparently. If Kate disappeared, it would make sense to me that Sophie would both search for her and take up the mantle in Gotham. Sophie perhaps wasn't a great character in the first season, but I would have thought the writers could have given Meagan Tandy something much better to work with here.

But, that's not how they chose to go, so...*shrug* I stopped watching the show when they killed off CR!Beth, because I no longer enjoyed the way they were writing the show. I honestly adored Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, loved Mary and Luke. So I keep tabs on what's going on with the show, in hopes I might feel like coming back to watch it again. I honestly don't think this reboot is going to be written in a way that compels me to start watching again. But I do sincerely wish Javicia Leslie good luck with the show. I hope it becomes a breakout role for her.

I presume they have specific character-driven reasons why Sophie wouldn't work as Batwoman but the new character would. After all, "black lesbian woman" doesn't define a character in and of itself; it's just a partial description. Barry Allen and Ralph Dibny are both heterosexual white brunette men, but that doesn't make them interchangeable. Presumably what the writers want in a new Batwoman is not reconcilable with Sophie's character or her planned story arc.

Alternatively, maybe Meagan Tandy didn't want to do it. Not every actor is willing to commit to a multiseason starring gig. (The makers of Mission: Impossible offered to promote Martin Landau to the lead role when Steven Hill left after season 1, but he was only willing to sign up for one season at a time, so they hired Peter Graves instead.) Or maybe she doesn't feel equal to the physical demands of the role, with the heavy stunt work and all.

Kate dies and Alice takes up the mantle maybe even for a evil plot but finds she likes helping people and decides to keep doing it and reaches out to her dad and they make amends. She still comes close to falling back to her old ways sometimes but Luke and the others sort of keep her from going bad again.

She keeps having sex with him until he trusts her.

^ I'm not touching that

I was just thinking that a black Batwoman and a trigger-happy Jacob could make for an interesting situation if they wanted to go that route.

Why would Luke even consider trying to trust / relate to a mass murderer? Society would gain nothing from a killer/psychopath with access to Bat-tech and has never paid for her crimes. Why would anyone think believe she would ever seek redemption, when she's crapped on every chance / lifeline Kate tossed her way?

Because the writers would write it so those things happen. With good writing I think they could make it feel logical. I mean we have seen terrible people be redeemed lots of time in fiction. I think Alice could be as well. She would still carry those scares from her past but you can do redemption with any character if want to.

Because it's sad that she is poor, and if a Wayne gave her half a billion to play with, maybe Alice would stop killing people?

My grandmother's sister had no kids, so she gave 80 thousand each to the dozen children of her four siblings when she died, except my mother, becuase they thought that she was (still) a drug addict.

A few problems in the 80s, and no one forgets.

So Bruce Wayne is going to give a cousin he thinks is dead money because?????
