For Emmy Consideration ...

Danja

I don't know about List (she's good, but I wouldn't call her work Emmy-calibre).

Ryan DEFINITELY deserves a nomination (Picking up a character after twenty years and then running away with it is an achievement! )

Just being NOMINATED is an honor in and of itself (most actors would be thrilled to be billed as an "Emmy nominee").

SirPat certainly deserved at least a nomination, if not a trophy, back in the TNG days. Long overdue.

I see Sir Patrick getting a Lifetime Achievement Award at some point (he's helmed two franchises -- Star Trek and X-Men).

Congrats! Sir Pat did an awesome job, so did Marina, Jeri ( my phone autocorrected her name to Jerk), Jonathan, Brent and the others.

I figured as much.

I didn't want to embarrass you.

We've all been there. Mine does that as well. ;) (Fat fingers plus tiny keys.)

While the acting on the show is nothing short of exceptional for a Star Trek series there was nothing I saw that was Emmy worthy outside of Jeri's performance in Stardust. Unfortunately, this year's Best Supporting Actress is as competitive as it's been in years. For one thing, with all the "gimmies" Thrones got last year (especially in this category), there's going to be some make-up with long-running shows. Add to that, there are some new potential entries from some newly-eligible greats including Helena Carter, Phylicia Rashad, and that one Meryl Streep lady.

As Turtletrekker suggested, I suspect Pat will get an acknowledgment nom at some point, if there's a down year and the show lasts long enough.

But I'd say the best chance the show ever has to win would be to do an entire episode with Cabrera as all the Holo-Rioses, provided they brought in a dialog script doctor to really give it some life.

A lot of shows since the end of TNG (and Star Trek on TV in general) have paved the way for Fantasy/Sci-Fi at least being considered for Emmy's and other awards both major and minor.

Orphan Black was a big one in that area, plus Tatiana actually winning an Emmy for Lead Actress among her 3 nominations.

Picard should at least get some nominations.

I will not get my hopes up... I've been disappointed too many times by this whole Emmy Awards thing. Although I would find some kind of poetic justice in it if they finally gave Sir Patrick the award he deserves for the very role that seems to have prevented him from getting the award in the past decade(s). You could practically HEAR the "ugh it's that dude from that 80s/90s sci-fi series, we can NOMINATE him, but we aren't gonna GIVE him that award, right?" attitude.

This. The Emmy's are fixed. It's all about playing the political game. And they'll say, "What does it say about our Awards if we give it to a sci-fi actor? Seen and not heard! Thank you very much!" I'm not even talking about Picard specifically, but their attitude in regards to the entire genre. The Nomination is accomplishment enough, because that's all he'll realistically get, unfortunately.

They're not even there yet, they're only running a "for your consideration" campaign, which I expected them to do since I've been seeing a few "Emmy nomination for Stewart?" speculation articles here and there in the past few weeks. They'd be foolish not to pick up on this. However, I agree with you... they might give him the nomination but that's where it'll stop. It always has. Hence my bitterness and frustration. (I'm most likely more bitter and frustrated than Sir Patrick himself is, but as the massive fan that I am it's just INFURIATING to not see the man's brilliant work getting the recognition it deserves.)

No.

Yes. Take Picard out of the equation. Do you think any actor in any science-fiction series ever would win the Best Actor Award?

Yes or No? And tell the truth. You know the answer to this as well as I do. Once again, forget about Picard. Fuck Picard. Insert whatever sci-fi or fantasy series you think is "The Best of the Best of the Best!" The answer will still be the same.

Um. Over the last few years Thrones, Orphan Black, Westword, and Handmaiden have had multiple nominations. As has Killing Eve that, while not a skiffy show specifically, is still genre-heavy.

*During TNG's run, Perlman was nominated for Beauty and the Beast. And, shit, I completely forgot about Baks and Quantum.
