Spoilers The Clone Wars - Season 7 Discussion [SPOILERS]

Yeah. From 2019’s Fallen Order. Where is Cal’s cameo in Clone Wars? He’s a better character than that Rebels Guy.
Shame what happens to Rex. He should be one of Vader’s minions. He could be his Jerjerrod.

This had a really cool Hannibal Lecter/Silence of the Lambs vibe complete with face mask. I also liked The Joker droid!
 
Some interesting things happening in this one. The box they stashed Maul in is explicitly called out to be some kind of Mandalorian Jedi cage. Makes me wonder if it blocks their ability to use the Force in some way, or if it's just so restrictive that it limits their options. Definitely seemed to have Maul locked up tight, however.

I admit to being a little bit surprised that they had Rex turn with Order 66. I don't know why, but from Rebels I kind of pictured it as Rex had his chip removed BEFORE these events, taking Fives' warning to heart even if he didn't believe it himself. I honestly think this worked better. It was nice seeing Ahsoka try and save Rex. And she was careful not to harm the other clones more than she had to, which was a great touch. I was actually a bit taken aback when Rex was so willing to fire on his own men after he woke up, but I suppose he knows just how dire their situation now is.

So, we've had Rebels, Rogue One and Solo call outs in these episodes. I wonder if they'll work in any more in the finale.

Also, is this the first time we've seen a C1 droid other than Chopper? I liked this one, with the rounded dome instead of Chop's more boxy look. Cheep isn't the best droid name ever, however.
 
Just finished the episode. Very atmospheric and overall I would say it was good. I think that Ahsoka using the droids, and figuring out the clues that Rex gave her while she was hunted definitely was enjoyable. It was all very subtly done.

My one complaint is how much of a dick Mace is, and the stupid OP use of Maul.

But, the haunting way of Rex saying "It's all of us" underscores the tragedy of the clones. That part is good.

The dialogue in "The Lost Commanders" gives them some wiggle room, since Ahsoka isn't technically a Jedi at this point.

Once this is all over I'd be curious to see how this story evolved once they actually got to tell it since it's clearly evolved from what they thought it might be back when they were making Rebels and the Ahsoka novel.
From the Ahsoka novel it looks like the notion was for Maul to have been captured with a ray shield in what seems to have been a set trap rather than ran down and ensnared while attempting to flee the city. It's not clear if Order 66 went down right then and there (I don't think so given the mention of the Jedi putting Bo Katan in charge of the planet) but the implication was that it happened on *a* planet. (I'll refrain going into further detail just in case some elements are preserved in the final instalment.)

All for the better I'm sure, since it's always preferable to tell a better story that's slightly discordant with what's come before, than to tell a lesser version just to remain slavish to the letter over the spirit of canon.

I just wonder how much of it was driven by how few episodes they had left to tie all the threads together. For example: would Rex's chip have been dealt with in a separate arc that somehow involved Wolfe and Gregor? Possibly. Though on balance I think having Rex have to fight the compulsion of the chip and save both Ahsoka and himself in the process has much more dramatic potential. Plus done the other way the drama wouldn't have been so much about the personal bond between Rex and Ahsoka but more about Rex dealing with having to fight his own brothers. There will still be some of that to come, no doubt, but this makes it much more focused.

I just love how into her character and the mythology Ashley Eckstein is. It's obviously so much more than just a job for her, it's a labor of love. The only bad thing about the possibility that Rosario Dawson might play the live-action Ahsoka Tano is that Ashley Eckstine has more than earned the right.
 
Anyway, my plan to celebrate May 4th is to do a back and forth extended watch of the Siege of Mandalore and the Revenge of the Sith.

Revenge of the Sith up until 41:17 ("He won't let me down. He never has." "Right, I hope you are.")

Clone Wars: The Phantom Apprentice

Revenge of the Sith up until 1:07:39. ("So uncivilized.")

Clone Wars Shattered up until 9:40 ("I'm sure it's more good news.")

Revenge of the Sith through Order 66 up until 1:23:57 ("Master Skywalker, there are too many of them. What are we going to do?)

Clone Wars Shattered to conclusion.

From there, to be determined.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings on that myself. I'm a big fan of Rosario Dawson, and I like the idea of her playing Ahsoka, but it would have been nice to see Ashley Eckstein do it. She's played the character in every other appearance, and seems to be really passionate about her.
The one thing that did occur to me is that I could see where Rosario Dawson might be considered a closer physical match.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head. Physically, Rosario really looks a lot like Ahsoka. Plus, in a live action medium, the powers that be are gonna want a bankable face. Rosario gives you both.
 
One thing that did occur to me in that regard, is that I could see someone with darker skin, like Rosario Dawson, being easier to give the orange skin tone that Ahsoka has on the shows.
I just checked on Wookiepedia and Shaak Ti's live action actress was an Israeli woman named Orli Shoshan, and her skin tone is closer to Rosario Dawson's than Ashley Eckstein's.
 
Just watched it. It was alright but it was just one long escape segment. The final part felt like something from Fast and Furious. :)
I was hoping for some aftermath stuff at the end. We did get a look at a mysterious new villain (?) at the end in black that looks cool.

Ashoka being such a goodie two shoes not wanting to kill the Stormtroopers who end up dying anyway. :)
