Seems weird to hear non Star Trek type dialogue(even with the JJ Abrams movies)

Riker- Oh man!

Picard- Ass deep

"In a pig's eye!"

Seriously, what is "non-Trek dialogue"? Different characters talk different ways. A Vulcan priestess talks differently than McCoy or Scotty. And the characters have always talked contemporary English to some degree, depending a lot on what era we're talking about. One can (and have) make the argument that the dialogue was more colloquial on TOS than on TNG, but some of us prefer it that way. I like that the people on PICARD talk like real people, depending on their personalities. Raffi and Jurati have very different speech patterns than Elnor, as well they should. But characters on STAR TREK don't always speak highly formal English.

"I'll bet you credits to navy beans," etc.

-Picard reunite with Troi who is very happy to see him. Kestra then shouts again at Riker who is the kitchen. He does't believe that Picard is there but Picard goes in the house with Troi. Everyone is reunited and Riker puts a cloaking device on the house and a shield. They catch up. Troi says Picard can stay in their son's room. Riker calls Kestra his wild girl of the woods and she brings him a rabbit she hunted. They have a cute family action and she runs off after Soji.

Also Kestra, Troi, and Riker speak in these made up languages that I guess Kestra and the brother (who was named Thad) made up

I wish they’d make a series, or short trek, or anything!! About the events leading to Thad disease, the family moving to the planet, the pain of watching their son suffer and the struggles after Thad passes. I know die-hard trekkies will hate a chick series but well, that’s me ☺️

No offense, but ‘Thad Troi-Riker’ and his death was just a plot device to show the effects of the synth ban by utilizing small-universe syndrome. I doubt it will be brought up again.

It also helped explain why Riker and Troi are in no position to jump back in the saddle and go adventuring with Picard again. Having already lost one child, their top priority is looking after Kestra now.

"I'm not as brave as I used to be," etc.

It was another lost child/grandchild caused by Picards retirement. Had he stayed, pushing for investigation into *why* the synths did what they did would have been completely the sort of thing he would have done. I do wonder if all of this is leading to time travel shenanigans to put Picard back on the Scimitar and not Data. (It most likely isn’t, but all of the events thus far are all caused by that one moment...I doubt the F8 synths would exist with a serving Starfleet officer to protest on behalf of his cousins.)

These are two retired men who are comfortable with each other not two officers on the bridge. More importantly - you simply aren't getting to get the sort of stagy slow exchanges you used to see on TNG - that was three decades ago - the world has moved on.

Moreover - it just felt right - far more nature performances between three actors than we got to see in the past.

If I'm being honest? I found it to be the sweetest, most heartwarming & nostalgic nap I've ever taken.

I mean for TNG nostalgia alone, I'd find it impossible to hate what they did here, but in context of it being its own narrative, there's not much to sink your teeth into. It's basically a recap, with a little Riker/Troi backstory. The Agnes tracker reveal was the only moving of the plot forward

What I can't figure out is, how does Agnes being unconscious prevent the transponder she swallowed from working?

The unconsciousness was just an unfortunate side-effect. Apparently whatever nasty chemical she consumed was supposed to neutralize or short-circuit the tracker somehow. That it was also highly toxic, and might put her in a coma, was a risk she was willing to take.

7/10

"Synths" - The human like "synths" continue to be a mystery to me. They are basically like the replicants of Blade Runner. Apparently so similar to human that just ordinary medical examination and normal interaction does not give them away. In BR they decided that psychometric tests are what can distinguish them. The problem for both BR and Picard though is that they cannot be that fast and strong and have that not be detectable. Even more so for the Trek era. The muscle tissue, tendons and bone cannot perform like that and still be indistinguishable from ours to any scan. Although, maybe they are detectable that way.

Also, it continues to be a mystery as to why it would be hard to make them, esp with 24th C technology. It would seem that Augment and Synth are hard to distinguish esp if they are entirely biological. Yet they want us to believe that Augments were makeable with 21st Cent tech, but "Synths" were not. Why is that exactly? We are now on the cusp of 3D printing organs to specification. Why can't they do that 2399?

Jurati - I am still hoping for some lexorin for Jurati and something along the lines of "you're suffering from a Vulcan mind meld Doctor". Although she may have been a little loopy to begin with. Why would you believe Oh about what will happen with "synthetics"? Far, far worse has been done by organics. Should we ban organics for millennia of colossal war crimes?

On the flip side it did seem thru her actions that she is now questioning what she was told. And from her behavior, the combination of the meld and the tracking pill may have exercised a strong influence on what she had done.

Riker & Troi - Stole the show. Great scenes, good character moments. Daughter was a little hard to take, but not at a Jar Jar level.

Cube stuff - We will see what happens with Hugh. That looked like repairable damage. The Romulan Wonder Twins were ok, but the sister is still a little bit of a mustache twirling one dimensional villain. Borg rebellion is undoubtedly coming, although we have suspected that all along. Only question is what role the Collective has in this and what is to come.

La Sirena - Obviously they were being tracked. Did Rios really not suspect Cuckoo Bird Jurati and thought it was Raffi? He doesnt know Jurati from a hole in the wall. Why suspect someone youve known for years and not this nutjob? Although maybe it is bec he knows her that it seemed likely. And Jurati's loony tune quality is not known to him yet.

I figured she replicated a substance that would dissolve/neutralize the transponder, but with the risk of causing a coma due to being toxic.

I'll buy that for a dollar ;)

If Hugh is truly dead, that's just tragic squandering. Short of Seven & Picard himself, he easily had the most potential worth of any character they've offered thus far, & I was hoping he'd be MUCH more present in the remainder of this. I'd literally scrap anyone else on Picards "Crew" for him to be around instead

I got the impression he was sounding Agnes out as much as confiding in her, that he has several theories but not enough evidence to be sure, so is keeping his options open - talking through one theory with Agnes allowed him to gauge her reaction, and talking to Raffi would have allowed him to do likewise with her. Shame he didn't get to finish either conversation!

But honestly,I can see where Raffi would be in the frame. The ship is obviously being tracked and hasn't landed or docked anywhere for a tracker to be placed, so it had to have been brought aboard by a crewmember, and there are currently only three of them aboard, so that's where Rios has to start. And he didn't accuse Raffi of deliberate betrayal. He told Agnes he was worried she might have had a tracker placed on her at Freecloud without her knowledge. Which, based on the evidence available to him, is a fairly logical leap. Freecloud is where everything started to go wrong, Agnes never left the ship, while out of those who did, Raffi is the only one whose time is unaccounted for, everyone else was in a group. And if Raffi returned to the ship drunk, she'd have been vulnerable while planet-side. So having had a tracker placed on her is a valid possibility for Rios to consider. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see him finish his train of thought because his deliberations kept being interrupted by the next crisis.

I'm not convinced he isn't also suspicious of Agnes, but from where Rios is standing, since Agnes has never left the ship there hasn't been any opportunity for her to pick up a tracker and he has no reason to suspect she was compromised before ever leaving Earth, while her obvious distress could be explained as grief over Maddox.

So, I can see where he'd be confused. He doesn't have all the pieces of the puzzle.

Whatever she injected with blocks it/kills it (how she knows, who knows) but also nearly kills her. The unconsciousness is the side effect.

Edit: doh. Sort of ninja’d. In that I had t scrolled further down xD

I want to hear Riker exclaim: "OH, MAN" when he sees a chair he truly loves. That will be the moment millions of us have truly been waiting for.
