How about: why does Hugh look so much better than the other ex-Borg? Where did he get his Nip-and-Tuck?

I don't really expect any TV series to take up such a story line, much as I would live them to do so, but a novel series would be very much appreciated. Or this business with the syths could be seen as the seeds of the trouble that becomes the Butlerian Jihad after the Federation covers the galaxy and the Quowat Milat become the Bene Gesserit and the Zhat Vash go into hiding on that obscure desert planet no one has any use for, except for that damn drug everyone gets hooked on.

Picard does not tie into the DSC S3 plot, they’ve stated this in interviews.

Sure that could all happen but the current writer is not interested in that story.

The quote in their post is from Michael Chabon, you know the show runner? If he doesn’t consider the Federation to be in heading towards downfall in Picard than it probably isn’t.

He doesn't have to. All I am suggesting is that the character Picard will provide something essential to the recovery of the Federation in the distant future. Given the number of centuries that downfall does happen, Chabon is not responsible for showing how or why it happens.

The moment Hugh and Picard hugged was very sweet.

They need to do more to help Raffi.

The abject terror of her Soji discovering the truth and then Romulan Spy dude trying to kill her was painful to watch. Imagine how scared she would be.

    Then the programming kicked in...yay!

    Good stuff.

Kind of wavering between an 8 and a 9 this time, for reasons mostly related to directing. The flashing shots of Picard's Locutus nightmare were way too fast to have any impact, and the ex-Borg drones just looked vanilla lumpy and ugly, nothing distinctive. Even the maze of truth scenes were not all that awe-inspiring, and the reveal of Soji in parts kind of made me laugh involuntarily, there was no shock or horror involved. They dropped the ball on not visualizing Picard's problems with his Borg past and reticence to go in better IMO. Story wise this was a 9, directing wise closer to a 7, unfortunately.

I agree. The writing was superb. Best dialog in the show so far.

The directing was choppy and distracting at times.

Directing doesn't always have to be ingenious, but it at least shouldn't get in the way.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the beauty and subtly of Sir Patrick Stewart's acting here? Returning to a cube, even after so much time, was such a terrifying prospect for Picard, and Stewart's performance - the nuances as his trauma returned - was incredible.

9 for me - great stuff from Stewart, some nice moments and compelling developments.

Could have done without the cheesy fanfare and the constant attempts at Elrond humour - hate to say this about the first Australian cast member, but he’a not much of an actor, and a bloody awful character.

hmmm...why? I like his almost child-like naivety. It reminds me a lot of earlier seasons Data

That’s part of the problem. It feels like an attempt to evoke that, but without any of the substance behind it. There was a poignancy to early Data, but Elnor is just silly line, silly line, heroic line, heroic line, kill people. Plus I suppose I have difficulty getting past the whole elven ranger in space thing.

Really good episode though can we stop giving Borg super technology that they never seem to use. Voyager gave them the Transwarp Hub that should of allowed The Borg to decimate and assimilate any part of the Galaxy with ease and now Picard gives them essentially a Transwarp Transporter, which again why wouldn't you use to land drones on ships or planets.

Why would the Queen need one of these? she's software and that's why when you kill her body you don't actually kill the Queen.
