Voyager Rewatch

Last week I finished a rewatch of DS9 and began a rewatch of Voyager.

Almost to the end of Season 2, and, really, I've liked the show so far more than I remember. I know there's quite the hill ahead of me with this series, but I know there's some peaks ahead.

And some quite deep valleys as the show becomes more "episodic" as the first couple seasons has some pretty nice little stories and sorta-arcs in it.

I grant, that I'm skipping episodes whose synopsis and such I look over don't appeal to me as it looks to deal with stories and such (the Kazon) I'm don't care about. But, I'm going through it. Hell, I may go back and watch those episodes I skipped.

I've been doing a similar rewatch with DS9. VOY isn't that bad. I liked the little arcs of the first three seasons too but it really got good for me when Seven comes on board in Season 4. Some of the CGI starts to look a bit dated, but it's not terrible. Enjoy.

I've been doing a rewatch too and I'm in Season 5. I haven't really felt motivated to watch much ever since I saw the last episode of Picard. I'm not sure when I will feel motivated to continue Voyager but it will probably be sometime this week. Honestly, despite it being a pretty good episode, I'm a little upset at the gratuitousness of the beginning scene that it's hard to come back to Voyager as if everything was fine.

Part-way through Season 4. And I've really been enjoying the rewatch though, again, I fully admit to skipping a few episodes here and there when their summaries on Memory Alpha don't exactly give me much hope.

But, frankly....

I'm enjoying this re-watch more than I am in watching "Picard." Hell, I got home from work tonight more wanting to watch Voyager than wanting to watch the newest Picard (the last episode really soured me.) It's just a more "fun" series and I like the characters more. I mean, I love Picard as he's my favorite captain of all the series, but the man we see in "Picard" isn't Picard at least not the Picard I fell in love with in TNG and the rest of the cast on that show bore me.

Here, I'm having fun and like most of the characters.(Neelix's status goes up and down.)

Just finished "Waking Moments" and thought it was a great little episode.

Voyager has it's problems, it has many problems and as I recall many of them sort of grow larger after the fourth season and it never entirely took it's own very premise all that "seriously" or treated it consistently.

But, overall it's fun. Hell, I'll go as far as to say I like Voyager more than DS9. There, I'll admit it.

I like Voyager more than DS9.

But not more than TNG or TOS. ;)

So last year I rewatched TNG, getting all ready for Picard. Then I just accidentally started rewatching DS9 as well, as you do. Then when I later found out that Seven of Nine would appear on Picard, I felt compelled to rewatch VOY this year. I've nearly finished S5 now, with my current viewing of Warhead a bit of a dull letdown after the fun of Relativity I just had. Good old inconsistent VOY. ;)

I liked the show's attempt at arc stories with the Seska and Kazon in S2. I know it didn't end well, but I always thought it was a shame they didn't learn from their mistakes and try again.

When you're about to skip an episode because it kinda looks like a dull one and then Lori Petty shows up!

I think I fell asleep to that one. ;)

The only two I actively skipped on this rewatch were the Fair Haven episodes. *shudder*

Also, after I realised I fell asleep during The Fight, I didn't bother going back to the bit I missed.

I’m not sure if I’m strictly doing a rewatch as i definitely didn’t see every episode first time round (I used to watch it when it was teatime viewing in the UK). I’m coming to the end of Season 3.

I thought when Kes & Nelix came aboard they were a couple but it’s never really shown as the series progresses. Was there an episode were they split up?

Warlord was the episode where Kes broke it off. Of course it wasn't really Kes at the time but they discontinued the relationship after that episode.

Thanks I really liked that episode. The actress who plays Kes is very good and they do some interesting things with that character. Is her new wig & jumpsuit just a result of the episode where she was jumping through time?

I'm part-way through Season 7 and the rewatch moves along nicely, I've liked this more than I thought I would. (Honestly.... I think DS9 was more of a "chore.")

There's still a lot of problems I have with this series but mostly in areas where it seemed like it didn't want to take its very premise seriously. They're always on about not wasting resources, then they take on a ship-load of prisoners and build an entire prison block in the cargo bay?!

Ehhh...

Doctor and Seven episodes I think still tend to be the better ones, next I'd probably give to Torres (who for me was always the one in this series to pine over as opposed to Seven. :)) The episode "Critical Care" for me was a really good one (The Doctor takes on an allocated, HMO-like, or maybe Communist-inspired health care system.

Then there's episodes where they seem to repeat episodic premises like "The Void" where they enter an area of space without any stars in it and they all act like this is a new experience, I mean... Didn't we just do this a couple seasons ago?!

I dunno, I like it.

It's too bad i know what's in the finale and that it's a pretty poor ending to all of this.

I think I'm about the same place you are, @Trekker4747. Watched up to Workforce II last night. I have about 8 episodes to go. I still enjoy Voyager, but the final two seasons are a bit of a struggle to get through. Seasons 4 and 5 were the best.

Watching "Workforce Pt. 1" right now.

I don't find the final 2 seasons to be that much of a struggle as some of the mid-series seasons. I'm skipping fewer episodes right now.

Question: During "Workforce" where are Naomi Wildman and Icheb?

Even during the brainwashing, they were still able to keep some memories, like who they are and where they were from. I would assume Naomi was with her mother. As for Icheb, honestly I never really thought of that before but you bring up an excellent point.

As for skipping episodes, there's only one episode you should skip.

It's episode 241 in season 6 which begins with an F (just like a four-letter word which exactly describes that crappy excuse for a Voyager episode).

Just avoid it,it's the worst and most insulting episode ever made in any TV series.

I tried rewatching VOY and just kinda lost interest. I actually sort of enjoyed it more than I remembered, but it was a show with lots of average shows and few really good or bad ones, at least in IMO.

DS9 and TNG probably have more out and out bad episodes overall, but they also have way more exceptional ones, so during a rewatch I can just skip ahead or look forward to something better. With VOY I found myself just kinda coasting and then eventually giving up because there were no episodes to really look forward to.

I still like to watch the three first seasons of Voyager from time to time.

The first three are ok, but they have that one weird character. Girl with short blonde hair? I'm getting the name... Jess? IDK, I think they dropped her after a bit. Anyone know who I mean?

Kes, dropped in favor of the tall, big-bosomed, blonde we can put in a skin-tight catsuit.
