At the very least, the episode should have had Ferengi working at the casino and latinum visible in plain sight.
Right?!

Eh, it depends.Well, reddit is a dumpster fire, too! Get out while you still can!
There's an idea...instead of Jurati murdering him, Picard could have lectured him to death.

And yet fifty years later The Classic Series Merchandise still out sells every other iteration of Trek hands down.Once upon a time, yes. And there still is a little bit of a default for TOS regarding those kinds of spoofs and references. But it doesn't really happen that much anymore and it's considered very, very old at this point.
TNG has (more or less) supplanted TOS as what modern people think of when they think of Trek.
For myself, it's not the violence which has me turning against the show. It is that I live in a world which is unremittingly depressing, so I seek a relief from that world. Star Trek used to qualify; now, it is as dark and as oppressive and as futile as the world I live in.
Yeah i usually click off when they start getting homophobic even if i agree with some of their pointsHahaha...no. YouTube sucks.

Yes, it is old, but hardly as down & out as you would have people believe.
If by dark you mean eyeballs being ripped out out of suporting chacters and not a reasonble amountPersonally, I go into Trek to see people overcome. Optimistic viewpoint is not never having trouble, darkness, danger or pain. Its the belief that we, as humans, grow and rise together to face them down.
Frankly, I'm tired of optimism meaning no darkness. Such a future breaks my suspension of disbelief.
If there is no hope, shouldn't Picard return to Earth and get drunk on wine?Dark, depressing and with no hope.
So, one scene? If optimism is destroyed by one scene then I'll question its value as optimism. If by dark you mean eyeballs being ripped out out of suporting chacters and not a reasonble amount

... and in the last ten years what form of Trek has been most in the public eye...By definition, merchandise sells to "fans." I'm talking about general public perceptions.
That was just the last straw for me its cheap shock valueSo, one scene? If optimism is destroyed by one scene then I'll question its value as optimism.
