Too farfetched. Maddox didn't look like the people butchering kind.
We dont know how far he went but Jurati does and she killed him so its possible.

At a minimum he would need Lore or Data's body (maybe Lal's would be enough) and esearch into maturation chamber technology to grow the actual synth body.

It would make sense that he would need Borg implants from ex Drones that had been assimilated at a young age to give him some idea how to successfully merge them without biological rejection, remember he cant use nanites as they will show up on scans.

Why did she have to kill Icheb? I am sure twenty-four-century medicine could have put him back together. Replaced the missing organ with synthetic ones. Something is not right here.

No it was what we thought or the whole episode makes no sense.

No, certain implants cant be removed if the ex drone was assimilated at a very young age like Icheb was.

This was all covered in Voyager.

Even twenty-fourth century medicine needs to be available. Her ship might have lacked the equipment necessary to keep him alive until they've reached a medical facility and she didn't want to subject him to a lengthy, agonizing death from shock and critical blood loss.

How about putting him into stasis? Someone could be in that state for years without decay.

Correct. Some implants are irreplaceable, and the body dies without them.
It does make the Romulan "reclamation" project on the "Artifact" much more sinister. Grave robbing, basically.

I don't think the woman dissecting Icheb was supposed to be Jurati. For one, she didn't strike me as being the same actress. For another, Seven shot her, and I doubt it was set on stun.

Plus Jurati spoke (to Maddox) of things they showed her, not of things she did although what she did to Maddox was pretty bad.

They didn't use his name in the opening scene, and I was kinda looking away most of the time, but I did recognize that he was a Brunali (or generic straight nose-ridge alien), and when Seven appeared, made the understanding that he might be Icheb. I halfway hoped they wouldn't reveal him to be Icheb (as they did at the end of the ep), but that we could speculate this ex-Borg, Brunali Starfleet officer was highly likely to be Icheb.

Pretty sure she did say his name in the death scene, you probably missed it. I watch with closed captioning on.
Here ya go...was just reviewing that scene for a different reason.

I never saw it as a picnic with rainbows anyway although with the Borg dead isn't the same as DEAD, there is a fair chance some of the drones will wake up at some point, possibly due to Soji.

I was never really convinced it was all about money or learning either, something else is behind it.

Jurati specifically mentioned that she must atone, which means she did something she should not have done in the past for him or because he asked her to.

Potentially leading up to a repeat of whatever it is she was shown by the Commodore.
