I’m a huge sfx fan and really liked the sounds in the episode. Not sure if anyone noticed, but the “whoosh” sound of the door in the archive is really interesting. It’s largely true to the “whoosh” of the standard doors on TNG, except when it closes you get a very faint echo of the heavy doors to the holodecks or cargo bays. A nice touch.

Would anyone who has seen the second episode already at one of the screenings, etc mind saying whether Cris Rios (Santiago Cabrera) is in the second episode, or if he doesn't show up until the third episode? Thanks!

i haven't seen the episode, but he is listed as cast for ep. 2 and 9 episodes overall. And accurately not listed in the cast for ep. 1 so I think you're likely to see him in the ep.

Its very unlikely that the future earth would have a population in billions. If you consider that human beings from earth are going to spread out into the Galaxy, into ships and different colonies combined with how few children there are in the trek universe. In the entire TNG cast, there are only two parents with 1 child each. If you expand that out, Sisko only has a kid, Tuvok has kids but thats it

I think its pretty safe to assume that the birth rate in the trek universe would be something like 0.5 or less. Not to mention that the Romulans are not native to the Romulan system,
Every time we see Earth in any Star Trek incarnation, from the Cage till Picard it's always shown as very heavily populated. Giant Arcologies in the middle of rural areas Every city built up like Manhattan etc... So a lot more people than today

And in a post scarcity world with likely some of the best obstetric technologies in the world, I would imagine there would be places with some pretty huge families for anyone who wants them.

He doesn't entirely "hate" the episode but in his little recap he gripes a lot about Daj, naturally she's a "Mary Sue" and, really, he jsut feels like a typical YT "Mennist" or other whiner and his little recap of the episode he makes several mistakes on what's going on.

He expresses a lot of mock outrage. No surprise he referred to Dahj as a "Mary Sue". That's what I expect from him. Even though she doesn't know what to do, doesn't know who she really is, and gets killed. If Dahj had a penis, but everything else was kept exactly the same, he'd be talking about how awesome Dahj is.

The next episode supposedly involves Picard gathering people to help him on his quest.

Yeah. All this "Mary Sue" bullshit has to stop. I don't care how you feel about Discovery or Picard. Find something constructive to criticize or STFU.

It's a good thing VOY isn't premiering now. Kathryn Janeway would be a Mary Sue who always finds a way out of a crisis situation because she's a woman and the writers were pandering to a feminist philosophy.

So if a positronic neuron can contain all of Data's memories and such, seems like you don't need more than one to have a functioning android.
Data compression and cloud backup could have gotten very powerful by then. His neuron only needs the access code to a huge backup zip file somewhere in a hidden data archive, which would make it a literal Data archive XD

There's a lot of video-reviews out there, and one of them I watched today, part of it, is one of the YT reviewer guys I think I hate the most.
Then why spread it more? Such youtube idiots should simply be ignored instead of giving them more clicks.

I was in my early teens when Voyager premiered, but I distinctly remember in a trek chatroom I visited daily a lot of criticism of Janeway was based on the fact that she was woman. For example her action in Equinox pt 2 were derided as being due to borderline personality disorder or even more crudely because she was on her period. Not to mention, the jokes about Janeway being lost because she was a 'woman driver'. A segment of the male trekkie population have a massive issue with a woman being in command. My guess it has something to with an insecurity around and an inability to relate to women.

Are the dorks at Red Letter Media really brain-damaged in some way, or do they just love the clicks too much?

I reckon it's a bit from column a and a bit from column b.
