Reasons not to make a Pike show

This isn’t about watching something or not; it’s about one’s opinion of it before or after. Again, is Star Trek fine with people thinking it’s merely OK?

To be honest, I don't even know what this is about anymore.

To the OP - Give me my Captain Pike series. I'll eat it up.

Please show me anywhere else on the internet where people are saying: "OMG! Because of how data looks in the trailer "Star Trek: Picard" is going to suck! It really shows NO ONE cares anymore! I'm done."

I DO remember when the Star Trek 2009 trailer first landed, some on this board were complaining because Kirk ended a sentence with "man." When I saw the trailer again in theaters, after Kirk said that line, I yelled out, "THIS MOVIE IS GONNA SUCK!"

The point is, Trek has let small details like this slip before, but, yet for some reason it's unforgivable and considered lazy if the Kurtzman era of Trek does it as opposed to the Berman era.

Did you ever think that things did get called out in the Berman era? Rick Berman isn't exactly a popular figure among a lot of fandom. Discovery gets what seems like more flak because it is the current production.

I’d love a post-TOS (more or less immediately post-TOS) show about Una commanding the Yorktown.

I don’t have a lot of faith in the current producers, but, if done straight (TOS aesthetics, TOS ideals, TOS format) it could be a solid concept!

It would just mess with continuity even more. They seem too scared to use the actual aesthetic so it’s would just look silly the closer they get to TOS.
Better off to just make a TV movie.

I know things got called out in the Berman era of Trek. But I've had so many moments where if I try to use that as an example for when the same thing happens now, the goal post gets pushed and it's either easily-explained away in someone's own head canon or it's just flat out forgivable. But when the same logic is applied for the Discovery-era, it's labeled as the current administration of Trek "not caring" or being "lazy."

Everyone on social media loves to say how Enterprise honored canon and was consistent with the lore when I remember perfectly well that the show was hated and considered one massive canon violation by the fanbase back then.

Time heals all wounds. Or some claptrap like that. Rick Berman was seen as an enemy of fandom for much of the time he ran it. "We are very pleased." made peoples blood boil.

Enterprise was all over the place, which was why people started treating it as an alternate timeline spun off of First Contact to begin with. Though I personally think that being a century prior to TOS, it is easier to make a case for it as a prequel versus Discovery. And it isn't a quality issue.

Time seems to be good to all of the Star Trek series and I'm sure if it's more widely-available in the future, Discovery will get the same treatment. To your point, which I agree with it, because it's the current iteration, it's the one that's going to get the latest round of criticism no matter what it does.

Will Picard be immune to it? We'll see.

That's my struggle. It's not that the Berman era wasn't without criticism. It's that the criticism now is so full of venom towards the showrunners. "They are telling fans to fuck off." "They are lazy and don't." or the real winner of "They are not really Star Trek fans."

Maybe I'm just too sensitive, maybe I missed it in other eras because Berman era wasn't really one I enjoyed too much, other than casually. But, after Abrams' film came out the hostility felt really increased, aside from the death threats towards Nick Meyers with TWOK.

Every Star Trek era has gone through some version of this, so, it's no surprise. But, to your point: I may be more sensitive to it now, too, especially because there seems to be a rise in toxic fanbases lately.

And I think for a good majority of Star Trek fans, it was really the first time we saw the administration behind the scenes change. The Berman era was the first "new" Star Trek era I had exposure to and it was the one I was the most used to.But I wasn't about to start spitting venom at those who came after this just because it wasn't the same Trek I was used to.

I've always considered myself to be a very open-minded Star Trek fan and am happy to give all of Star Trek a chance, no matter who is putting it together. Luckily, I've gotten enjoyment out of all of it.

We are the original toxic fan base!

I don't know. I never considered the Trek fanbase to have any sort of toxicity. I think the reason we all debate so much is because we want to see Star Trek continue to prosper. Are there things that are debated that I consider stupid and immaterial? Sure. I know where to draw my personal line. But at no point have I ever thought the Trek fans were toxic.

But when I hear Star Wars fans drove one of the actors from The Last Jedi off Instagram because they couldn't stand her? Yeahhhhh, that's plenty toxic, IMO.

Star Wars has a bigger fan base, though I’m not sure they are any more toxic, pound for pound. We’ve had our share of ass clowns, just peek in on YouTube.

Honestly, and please forgive me, moderators, as this isn't aimed at anyone here, but, from what I've seen said on Reddit and Twitter, I think there are some fans who should be told to fuck off.
