It was announced on Tuesday at WarnerMedia Day that the super-prolific producer is developing for the HBO Max streaming service (launching May 2020) an adaptation of DC Comics’ Strange Adventures sci-fi anthology as well as what is being cryptically called “a Green Lantern-inspired project.”

“Both of these original DC properties we’ll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television,” says Berlanti, whose current (and massive) TV oeuvre of course includes The CW’s Arrowverse and DC Universe’s Titans and Doom Patrol.

“An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist” is how Berlanti touts his take on Strange Adventures, while “in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series — but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.”

Strange Adventures features Adam Strange;

Green Lantern is one of my favorites so I hope they do it right. And better than the movie.

Green Lantern on HBO? I'm so there.

The description of it as "going to space with a GL series" is pretty exciting.

I do not care if it makes hash of 60-odd years of comic book continuity and characterization. Not one bit.

It's HBO Max, which doesn't necessarily have the same seal of quality as the original HBO...

Not HBO. HBOmax, which is the name for Warner Media’s streaming service.

That doesn’t mean it won’t be more adult like an HBO show, but it could be like the other Berlanti shows as well.

Damn, damn, damn, I have no intention of signing up for HBOMax, so this is really frustrating for me.

Hopefully it gets a blu-ray release like Titans and Doom Patrol release got (hopefully Swamp Thing gets one too). 14.99/month is just too much for me.

That makes no sense. Each blu ray would cost more than a month on the service, so just sign up after the season ends and enjoy the shows plus much more. Then cancel.

If they're doing something Green Lantern-based on this Max thing, I guess that dashes my hopes of a Diggle "John Stewart" GL spinoff in the Arrowverse. Well, at least this version will have a bigger budget for FX and outer-space sets and such.

I do that with CBS All Access. But then I forgot to cancel it when Twilight Zone ended and got charged for three months. I can't trust myself to remember. Also if I buy it on blu-ray I own it and can watch it anytime.

But then you get to own them and watch whenever. Jason

I think you ninj'd me if that is how the phrase goes. Jason

I have no idea what HBO is costing me now, but the difference couldn't be all that much. Fifteen a month? Meh.

I cancel it as soon as they charged my card. You still get the full month.

This Green Lantern thing is very interesting to me. Presumably, it will have a bigger budget than CW shows, but hopefully, take place in the same universe. With Arrow ending and Crisis looming, I would absolutely love it if when the dust settles, Diggle is John Stewart, has his ring, and is one of the leads of this show.

I hope it's Hal centric though. The Corps is filled with all types of characters that could fill a series. They can even go anthology style and feature a different GL each week.
