What grade would you give the Marvel Cinematic Universe? (Ever-Changing Question)

Not upset. Spider was a nice inclusion in the MCU but they've got more than enough stuff to be getting on with.i Might even mean we get more movies with Sony going solo again.I

Chances are Sony's next Spidey will prove them to still be inept and come back to the table or Disney will buy them anyway...
 
Well, shit, fuck and damn.

Hopefully Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers also return and, between them and Watts and Holland, are able to maintain the quality and spirit of the first two films without Sony meddling and shitting all over the process (and, as Turtletrekker said, keep Avi Arad far, far away from these films!). I don't need the connections to the MCU for the future films but I do want the same quality of story as Homecoming and Far From Home. Fingers crossed that this doesn't result in an outright disaster.
 
It would have been nice if they got one more film out of the deal before it all blew up, but this was always at least some possibility. I feel both sides are leaving money on the table and Sony is dumb for thinking that they'd do better on their own after Disney helped them get the most profitable Spider-Man movie ever.

I'm convinced that Sony will pull a FOX and give it back to Arad. Just like how FOX kept giving Simon Kinsberg superhero movie work even when everything he did besides X-Men DOFP was pretty shit, Sony was never able to figure out what to do with Spider-Man after SM2, at least in live action.

Sony honestly really needs the MCU/Disney, but Disney/MCU really don't need Spider-Man at all, so it seems like Sony got cocky based on FFH's box office, without realising that the MCU and people connected to it is the reason that Spider-Man FFH made so much money.
 
Damn, I really liked finally having Spidey as part of the MCU.
It does seem like kind of a bad move on Sony's part, part of what drew people to these movies was the MCU connections, and I have to wonder how much of an impact losing that will have on future movies.
As long as the cast and non-Marvel crew are staying put, I'm pretty sure they'll still be good, but losing the MCU connections will hurt things a bit for me.
I wonder if this means they'll incorporate him into their Spider-Man universe movies now?
 
I don't have trust in Sony to properly handle the fallout of Parker/Spider-man's identity being revealed.

Sony also isn't bound by MCU's phases now so they can release a new Spider-man movie in two years. The only good side is that we don't have to wait that long for how they handle Spider-man's identity being known.

If it were still with the MCU then we'd have to wait till after 2022 after phase 4. Too long IMO

Ant-Man and the Wasp wasn't on the Phase 3 docket when it was first announced, but happened anyway, so it may not have been shelved yet, per se, but was still in negotiations. It does seem likely that this explains the lack of any Spidey announcement for Phase 4, however.

It's not egocentric to be reticent about sharing half the profits for an IP to which you own the license outright.

It'd be like Sony asking Disney to share half the profits of Captain America Civil War, Avengers Infinity War, and Avengers Endgame.

Also, barring a reboot (which is a direction Sony has no reason to head in barring being legally forced to, which I don't think can happen), the current filmic version of Spidey can't be excised from the MCU even without Feige being involved as a producer; that genie is out of the bottle.

Even if the deal hadn't fallen through, I could see both Studios wanting to take a break with the character. He was in five movies in four years. Also, even if the next movie were to have been released in 2022, it would still be a year behind the current MCU timeline.

Disney asking for fifty percent of the profits is indeed unreasonable. But I'm sure we all hope that cool heads prevail, and the two studios work out a more proper arrangement to allow the series to continue under Feige's leadership.

According to updates to the original report from Deadline, compromises were floated and rejected.

Apparently there are other reports about negotiations now being about a producer credit (for whom I'm not sure), but even if no new deal gets reached, I don't think Disney can legally stop Sony from continuing the current filmic version of Spidey without Feige being involved in a credited capacity.
 
This seems like much ado about nothing--it is still early in the game. Sides walk away from negotiations all the time only to reconsider. It could very well be nothing more than a tactic.
 
To clarify, has it been noted anywhere whether or not Cindy Moon is one of Sony's collection of Spider-characters, movie-wise?

I had been hoping that the upcoming movie featuring Shang-Chi might be leveraged into a team-up featuring the New Agents of ATLAS. Silk is on that team in this year's comics, but she might have to miss out on a would-be big-screen version if Sony and Disney continue to go their separate ways.
 
^ As far as I know, Sony owns the filmic rights to all characters associated with Spider-Man with the possible exception of the Jessica Drew Spider-Woman.
 
Assume that Silk is part of the Spider-Properties list. She keeps crossing over into their books.
