Is The Disney Company a hoarder that destroys our favorite franchises?

I already know that...

Then why are so many OT fans angry at new leads?

To what end? This discussion is a bunch of "what ifs?" and there is no evidence that if Lucas had kept going it would have automatically been better or expanded the franchise.

I imagine it would be better.

No. That's hand holding the audience to a level that is borderline insulting. Audiences do not need their hands held, no matter what complaints are posted online.

Then they shouldn't have been so mad Han and Luke died.

People can be made at new characters and actors for lots of reasons, not just because "they aren't Skywalkers!!!!!" That's a highly reductionist argument that ignores other criticisms, including lack of connecting with the new characters, Rey as Mary Sue, not thinking characters are facing real challenges, etc.

I see this happening in many franchises, not just SW.

Grass is always greener, my friend.

Why not? People are allowed to be mad when favorite characters die. Or, a lot of the anger is directed at how they died. Again, fan reactions are not binary. I have read a variety of different attitudes, none of which I would say is wholly representative of "all OT fans." Largely because those who are OK with it don't feel the need to post "I'm OK with this" all over the interwebz.

But Rey NOT being a Skywalker and stupidity like Finn NOT being Lando's son (because there apparently is only one black man in space) are big things tossed at their characters.

They don't NEED to connect the new characters to the old ones. That's like saying Star-Lord needed to have some connection to Black Widow.

Rey as Mary Sue

You want Sues, look at Jaina and Alanna Solo.

Mainly the ones that sat around wasting their potential for decades instead of capitalizing when the time was best.

Grass is always greener, my friend.

Even Robotech handled it's continuing storylines better than Lucas did with SW.

I know they were expecting Han to be some fancy pants Republic Admiral and Luke to be this Holy Grandmaster with Legions upon Legions of Jedi and for both to have 6 more movies to their names while Rey would be Luke's idiot sidekick there to dress in a skimpy outfit and be a useless damsel he always had to rescue and for Finn to be Lando's idiot son whose sole existence is to be berated by Han for screwing everything up, but it was never gonna happen.

Luke and Han were 35 years overdue for the grave.

This is a discussion about whether Disney destroys franchises--it seems it is getting off topic. The argument had been that people felt it destroyed SW because Disney threw out the EU and TLJ misinterpreted the character of Luke. The latter point is really subjective and regardless of what x number of Youtube videos say, it is really a matter of opinion. There are both supporters and detractors of this opinion and neither can claim to be definitive. I would argue that although there are those who don't like the direction of the recent films, the answer is a resounding "NO, Disney did not ruin the franchise!" (at least yet).

Regardless of views of the quality of the films, I think releasing four films in four years at least weakened the franchise, the prequels had already made it fairly love-it-or-hate-it but that much saturation probably increased the hate it side more than the love it side as well as just decreasing interest.

So? There are lots of different criticisms of the characters. This is a nonissue.

Missing the point. I meant that some audience members struggles with connecting with the characters, not that all characters had to be connected. Similar complaints leveled at Captain Pike from "The Cage."

No argument here.

Again, we can't spend the rest of our lives looking backwards. Fruitless.

Lucas made his choice. You can disagree with it but I will respect it.

There is no "they" here. Audiences are diverse. Let's not act like this was some grand expectation of the fandom as a universal truth. That's complete nonsense and clouds the issue to make a strawman to attack.

As for overdue for the grave, that's a matter of opinion. One I don't share.

This thread is too far off topic to be saved at this point. @Anwar and @fireproof78 should probably take this to the "is the last jedi really hated" thread over in the Star Wars subforum... Only Disney bashing and defending in here please.

They do have a proclivity for regurgitation. But it's kinda their thing, isn't it? I've always hated the nerdy cliche of "raping my childhood", but they really did a good number with The Lion King.

What’s this “internet” thing I’ve heard so much about?
I don't even know if I have it hooked up right...

There are still people who won't let them forget they took the old anime, Kimba the White Lion, and made it into a popular film (without owning the rights to it)...which is debatable and they won't let it go even if its false.

It’s really, really tempting to go off on an insane political rant right now but it’s not the time or the place

So, a few parts that are being discussed, Lets see..
1. Disney is a "Safe" company, and honestly, I like that in certain way, they've said that there new Disney+ service won't contain any R rated stuff, so I could give my kid the remote and not worry about him/her finding "The Boys" accidently.. or like what Discovery done with the F word and Klingon sex.. So I'm happy theres a kid safe area.
2. Disney changing copyright and trademark law is crap.. Sorry, i don't care who you are, you have x amount of time to make your money, now if you are activly producing things with said character, there should be some protections, but in general.. nope!
3. Disney not doing anything orginal, the question is.. whats original nowaday? Its like in A beutiful mind, where he was trying to have an original thought.. not build on anybody elses work.. thats hard!
4. Star Wars, yep, Disney is Risk adverse, while I Love Solo, I'm glad it tanked so it gave Disney a pause to the yearly relese scheduale..
5. Luke, I liked TLJ, but Luke going in to hiding is.. just another rehash of Yoda or Kenobi.. instead of facing the problem, they run.. I would have rather seen Luke crushing an At-At with the force, showing him as one of the strongest force weilders ever..
6. As for people having a differnt opinion.. Welcome to Life! there are 7 Billion different opinions in the world right now! Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.. IDIC!! LLAP!
