the ST: TNG episode "The Measure of a Man" has a JAG officer (court?). I THINK another episode did, too.

Kirk's old girlfriend in Court Martial. It's the NCIS/Investigative part I'm not sure about. I can't remember any appearance of one and we have definitely seen plenty of stories with regular crew running investigations that obviously should've been handled by professional investigators without direct ties to the crew. They weren't all official investigations, though, so... Like I said - maybe?

I've thought about how cool that would be.

Definitely a neat idea for a Short Treks episode.

A human, Garth of Izar, managed a Vulcan nerve pinch in Whom Gods Destroy (TOS), although it's possible his 'victim' was playing along as part of the ploy (which would make some sense in the plot, just about).

He was impersonating Spock using technology that allowed him to take on Spock's appearance at the time.

Of course, Picard managed one too, although this was after his meld with Sarek. Perhaps evidence it's a learned skill (and doesn't require Vulcanoid strength), or perhaps a meld unlocks some latent telepathic ability? McCoy couldn't manage it when he was carrying Spock's katra in TSFS.

I assume the strength is necessary for the quality more than the ability. IE, a stronger pinch lasts longer, which is why Burnham could do it but Georgiou woke up again almost immediately. Didn't recall Picard having done it - do we know how well it worked?

Hah, already I forgot about Burnham doing one. Time to rewatch Discovery S1.

Picard pinched out one of the trilithium terrorists in Starship Mine - ironically the one played by Tim Russ (Tuvok), skip to 1:00 in this clip (helpfully also the thumbnail):

Some sources claim this is just a cartoid artery block. Looks a lot like a nerve pinch to me though. Also, what if the nerve pinch is just a cartoid artery block, at least when done on a human?

How were the Cardassians able to build "Dreadnought" - a small unmanned missile that seems to be more than a match for one of the newest starships the Federation has to offer?

From most of what I see about the Cardassians, I get the impression that they are technologically very slightly behind the Federation, they certainly don't seem more advanced in any way ...

They weren't. They build a small unmanned missile that a talented half-Klingon engineer then modded the fuck out of.

Top Gear once converted a diesel BMW repmobile into something that could overtake proper track racers.

Nope. Dialog clearly establishes the Cardassians built it so advanced already.

Now, I do believe the part that B'elanna enhanced it even further- she's a brilliant engineer, after all. But there's a limit to how much she could have done in a few weeks, just on her own, not enjoying the resources Starfleet had in designing a new Starship, no matter how brilliant she was. As for that top gear reference: did their car leave all other cars in the dust, without any chance to win the race -except by an inside sabotaging job-, despite those other teams having a budget hundreds or thousands of times their own in both money and manpower? (that's the comparison that would be fair I think, in this case).

A couple of little TNG observations from my current rewatch.

I'd never noticed before that there's no reference to Keiko being pregnant before "Disaster", nor how many times the ship's doors seem to know when someone is about to change their mind about going through them; often a character will walk close enough to the doors to open them before turning back to say something dramatic, while the doors remain closed.

A question about "Disaster"; was the turbolift in which Picard and the kids are trapped bigger than the usual turbolift set to fit the filming needs?

    Talking of TNG rewatch's, I was watching an episode from.....S5 or 6 I think (I can't remember).

It didn't occurr to me at the time because it was way before Discovery, but Enterprise was in orbit over Barzan 2 and there was a woman on board from the planet and of course she had the implants to help her breathe in their atmosphere and half the time I just kept thinking of Commander Nhan and now I'm going to be thinking of Discovery when I rewatch the other episodes.

I’m a little past my Shatner-gazing days, but this caught my eye:

    Food for thought.

As opposed to a full-size Enterprise. But I think Mr. Tavares meant as opposed to none at all.

If there was a 1:1 scale model, it would still be a scale model (wouldn't it?).

Not quite sure how to use your search function here, so apologies if the question has been asked. But I've heard of the legendary Roddenberry over the com audio from Charlie X. Is there an MP3 or something anywhere. I'd love to listen to it and maybe find a use for it. Maybe a ring tone? I've had the Firefly Theme Song as my ring tone in the past, I'd love something more Trek-y. :)
    Thanks!
