News Variety Reports Robert Pattinson is the new Batman

To me it feels like Pattinson already did play a superhero, pretty badly, as Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man felt quite inspired by him and Twilight generally.

I thought Garfield was terrific as Spidey. The films themselves weren't that great, but they got the character just right.

But, can't have Bats doing any detective work on the big screen anymore it seems. I just don't get it.

Huh? Did you miss the news that Matt Reeves's film will be focused on Batman's detective side for a change?

As for "anymore," have we ever really seen Batman do much in the way of detective work on the big screen, at least since 1966?

Batman 89 most certainly had detective work. Returns to a lesser extent.

I haven't seen a single bit of news on the new movie other than this casting bit. I'll believe the detective story stuff when I see it.

Pattinson is not the Twilight character, so I'm not too concerned that his Batman will be a replay of that.

As for Garfield, his Spider-Man behaved like he either escaped from the looney bin, or suffered one blow too many to the skull--both resulting in the worst live action Peter Parker to date beating no resemblance to the comic version, Certainly not the classic years from the 60s or 70s.

Pattinson's current film at Cannes, The Lighthouse directed by Robert Eggers and also starring Willem Dafoe, is apparently the subject of much festival buzz.

I can't wait for that one. The Witch was my favorite "horror film" of the past twenty years or so. Hope we get his planned Nosferatu take as well.

How about Robert Eggers gets to do Batman too? Bwhahahaha. Oh man, can you imagine such a thing?

Somebody recently posted on-line an old fan petition demanding that Warner Bros. replace Michael Keaton from before the 1989 movie came out.

All of this has happened before . . . .
There's currently a fan petition out there demanding that Marvel cast Danny DeVito as the new Wolverine.

Actually, he was quite in line with Peter's more antiheroic and misanthropic portrayal in the very first issues.

At first I was like.. Huh? Twilight guy? But started to think.. 1. Haven't watched all of twilgiht.. so I have zero idea of how good an actor he is, nor have I seen his latest stuff, not much into indie stuff.
So, I'll give him the benifit of the doubt, and if a director /wb wants him, then he must be doing something right.

Now the other guy, Nicholas Hoult, I have seen him, and no, he no batman..
Still rather Arnie Hammer.. :)

Batman TAS single-handedly changed Mr. Freeze from a one-note gimmick into a compelling, tragic and complex character. Another reason why I love Batman TAS.

Kor
He’s such a heartbreaking character, getting to see a villain like this would be so powerful onscreen.

Even his death in Batman Beyond is tragic.

Even Bruce’s evolution of how he felt about Freeze is tragic, even he gave up on him eventually. Only Terry seemed to even want to save him by then.

Well, its kind of comforting to know that WB/DC movies will always be somewhat shit. Even with Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam being great, WB just can't resist being fucking terrible with at least some of its characters.

But, hey, if ruining Batman keeps WB from ruining WW, AM, and Shazam, I'm fine with that. I have good Batman movies/tv shows I can watch, so him being ruined for probably another decade, while unfortunate, isn't as big of a deal.

Since apparently you've seen the Reeves's The Batman and Pattinson's performance in it, I need to know a few things about the future..

Is Trump still President?
Are there flying cars?

It's the end of Batman as we know it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, we survived several iterations of this character, good and bad and everything in between. What's ruined exactly?
