Unpopular Trek opinions game

Major wars aren't current Humanity, or for that matter slavery? There are (my understanding} more slaves today than at any other point in Human history....

No. A slave is someone who is legally the property of someone else.Slavery is now illegal in just about every country and territory. There are no more slaves.

But whenever something evil is abolished, there is a natural human tendency to try to get away with the next worst thing to it.

So many evil persons defy the laws and illegally keep people in slave like conditions until and unless they are discovered.

And other evil persons try to create legally permissible situations as close to slavery as they can get away with. Situations that are almost as good from one point of view, and almost a bad from the opposite point of view, as slavery.

So there are still many millions of persons kept in conditions close to slavery. But that is mostly due to lax enforcement of laws against, slavery, serfdom, peonage, dept servitude, etc., etc., instead of being legal.

Wrong!

Modern slavery is a brutal reality around the world. The 2016 Global Slavery Index published by the Walk Free Foundation estimates that 45.8 million people are in some form of slavery in 167 countries. 58 percent of people in slavery are living in just five countries: India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan. The report estimates that North Korea has the world's highest prevalence of slavery at 4.4 percent of its population, followed by Uzbekistan (4.0 percent) and Cambodia (1.6 percent).

My observation is that simply being male doesn't make you a first class Ferengi citizen.

I'm not in any way saying the Ferengi are perfect, but they got some things right that we got wrong, and that outweighs having a bad dress code.Wrong, Nimoy didn't (for some reason) want Alley back, but legaly she had to be offered the role, so she was offered a absurdly low amount and she passed.

Never heard that. I don't disbelieve you, but I'd appreciate seeing a source.

Unpopular opinion: the V-Ger = Voyager with a few letters missing reveal is a really cheap gimmick, & an incredibly long walk to get to that payoff. The final episode of Enterprise being a holodeck recreation is almost as good a twist

Even more unpopular opinion: The Maquis sucked.

They weren't brave, noble freedom fighters, just warmongers who liked to play revolution. And who were too stubborn to just MOVE.

(Don't give me that horseshit about how they're defending their homes; that question has no meaning in the Federation, where there's a near-infinite amount of living space and their "homes" can, thanks to replicator technology, be re-created in precise detail anywhere they want.)

Unpopular Opinion: Wesley did have some use. He gave the show a maturity arc.

Most shows, especially of that time, you hardly ever feel like any time has passed. M*A*S*H ran 11 years, & they kept pretending they hadn't grown old all that much. Hell, they had at least 4 or 5 Christmas episodes, during a war that only lasted 3 years. But TNG season one, everyone seems so young, compared to S7. A lot of that is because of Wesley... & baby face Riker. The show matures, & that gives it a reality imho

Follow up unpopular opinon-Wesley is one of my favorite parts of TNG because of this maturing. I get that he is really annoying in early parts of TNG but episodes like "First Duty" and "The Game" are honestly some of my favorites because of Wesley.

Wesley gave TNG a familial warmth that separates the first 3 seasons from the rest of the show. I agree with most fans that his character needed to be deemphasized in the first season. In the 80s I always liked Wesley since he was the closest to my age when I first watched TNG.

I was about the same age as the Wesley character when TNG came out. His character was relatable to me. I didn't see the annoyance factor so many others did.

People tend to hate smart kids, especially if they weren't themselves very smart at the same age.

True, even if only because he appeared on screen a whole lot less ;)

(joking aside, I agree he became less grating as a character by that time).

Until his last episode where he showed himself to be an arrogant jerk, who managed to annoy or vex just about everyone.
