Favorite 'Little' Moments...

Well, Mitchell called Dehner a "Walking freezer unit" and he didn't have the excuse of being a robot or a probe...

Mitchell was a jerk.

OK there may be a lot more sexist lines in TOS than I thought. I think when its from Spock its more troubling because he's one of our heroes. Maybe he has an excuse as the main women in his life are very emotional. Although Number One was obviously a capable officer and not a mass of conflicting emotions.

When I rewatch TOS, I am both shocked by some of the remarks and pleased that we've so much evolved since then that we now find these remarks shocking. Don't get me wrong though I still enjoy (most) of these episodes, in spite of these remarks.

I keep trying to think of a little moment to contribute to this thread, and I keep coming up with an overall category of little moments, of which there are dozens, that I will label as "Kirk not talking".

I don't mean this as a put-down of Shatner at all, quite the contrary. I've always thought he's at his acting finest when he reacts to something someone else says or does. The little double-takes, the "I don't know what to say to that", the WTFs, moments, etc. As soon as he starts saying his lines, somehow I like his performances less.

No one can beat William Shatner at simply reacting.

Oh here's one:

Scotty with the Claymore or whatever that sword is called that he finds in Day of the Dove. He picks it up all impressed, and then he does this little stab with it that looks exactly like someone who only admires swords from afar and really has no idea how to use one. It's just the correct tone.

That was in fact a basket-hilt claymore. Scotty may have little experience in using one, but he certainly knows what one looks like.

Space Seed:

Spock and Kirk arrange for anti-intruder gas to be pumped throughout the ship. Cut to the conference room - gas comes in the vent and everyone scatters or is overcome. Scotty jumps up and starts to run out of the room, but quickly re-thinks, pivots and sucker-punches one of Khan's men before attempting to run away.

I love it.

This little gem. Just discovered it while searching transcripts.

Young SPOCK: Thank you, father. If you will excuse me now, I have some business to conduct with schoolmates.
SAREK: Business?
Young SPOCK: A demonstration of the Vulcan neck pinch. Our cousin taught me.

Even Spock - ahem, "Selek" - is not above using time travel to even the odds.:lol:

Yeah. A little bit of revenge. I wonder if "Selek" teaching Spock how to pinch (which the boys earlier said he couldn't even do) was always meant to be, or if he added that last part for his younger self's benefit.
