As likely many of you know, this is the year of Blade Runner (one of my favourite movies of all time). In 7 short months, it will be...

Since I live in LA, it makes it that much more special. Previously, we celebrated the arrival of Marty McFly on October 21st, 2015. In just under 44 years, we will welcome the Vulcans and herald a new era in humankind thanks to their First Contact (ignore the dodgy nuclear war which precedes...).

But come 2020, what other iconic events will we have to look forward to? TrekBBS historians of the future, tell me what you know!

We should invent a holiday to celebrate all the things that are supposed to happen in the current year according to sci-fi.

If the exact date of the Cochrane flight is known I would vote that.

Edit: April 5th. So if we went with that date we just missed it.

Yeah, but I mean if we were to pick one day to make into a holiday to celebrate all fictional history and achievement, the date discovery of warp drive seems to me the best choice because it’s the most symbolic dividing line.

It is a good one, being on a Star Trek board and all.

And we still don't have/use the three seashells.

2020's a big year in fiction:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21st_century_in_fiction#2020

Just to name a few, we've got Terrahawks, Godzilla: Final Wars, Mission to Mars, Real Steel, the finale of Dollhouse, and Edge of Tomorrow.

And next year we've got Moon Zero Two, the movie version of Johnny Mnemonic (i.e. the Keanu Reeves cyberpunk-dystopia action thriller that everyone forgot about when The Matrix happened), the novel version of Children of Men, The Twilight Zone's "On Thursday We Leave for Home," and -- oh joy -- the global cataclysm in Cowboy Bebop's backstory.

Speak for yourself. We actually do have three seashells on top of our cistern. Yes, it is intentional. No, we still haven't figured it out.

The Future War depicted in Terminator: Salvation took place last year - 2018

The Future War of Terminator 2: Judgment Day is in 2029

Also, the T-850 kills John Connor on July 4, 2032 (which is also the same year Simon Phoenix and Detective John Spartan are revived in San Angeles)
